where do you live, madd?

wait a sec, i dont want to become embroiled in this pointless debate, but you cant say that there are 10 liberals for every conservative billhpike. that just isnt correct. in fact, id say its quite a ridiculous exaggeration. just look at presidential elections in the past 50 years. republicans (conservatives) have held office for 37 of those years. how about we look at the republican controlled house and senate. and lastly, how about you back up your ridiculous propositions with facts.

Suburb of London

red- that has been addressed.

madd- that explains the apparent time difference

Red - he was talking about the lib to con ratio on college confidential - not the USA! I think 10:1 might be a bit liberal of a guess - no pun intended - but you can't deny that CC has a huge left leaning.

it's only 7:21 here and i'm pretty tired - i do not get over jet lag well.

Where did you get back from?

Paris. I loved it, but I'm glad I'm out of there since all the riots are starting up again. Some are in the area I was staying in!

hdm: Homosexuality is not a "religious belief" but a social condition. The government is not infringing on any religious belief by dissuading gay marriage primarily because no religion supports gay marriage in the first place. The USFG is thus not regulating religious morality but upholding a certain moral standard in our society. Also, I never said that I believed that homosexuality was immoral. I only feel that legalizing gay marriage is unjustified.

My reasons for being anti-gay marriage...

goes against dictionary definition of marriage and constitutes a previously socially condemned practice

silently promotes homosexual behavior when really most people become/think they are gay due to hormonal imbalances, environmental factors, or personal experiences

goes against the moral beliefs of a nation that is though not a theocracy or a nonsecular state, was stilll founded upon Puritanical beliefs and still values the mainstream religious beliefs

spreads disease and harms the next generation

creates family problems and severe emotional problems for children without access to counseling...

how does it spread disease and harm the next generation?

people do not choose to be gay. if they are, more power to them. they can enjoy the same freedoms as anyone else and should not have to endure the social stigmas placed on them by ignorant people.

Gay marriage has not exactly been banned forever, but only until Christianity invaded that section of Europe was that true. Beforehand, that was quite common. In addition, the social stigma attached to the situation is the reason for all of the problems.

http://www.whale.to/vaccine/cantwell.html

exactly, kman.
people like evil forget that Christianity does not form the basis of everyone's morals. religion is questionable as it is - find out the real story of Jesus and then see how holy it is. i think it's naive to think that modern society should conform to false ideals from so long ago, especially on the grounds that "religion says so".

evil, i understand that it is a common belief that AIDS was initiated within the gay community. But at this point, anyone (GAY or STRAIGHT) can be infected with AIDS and spread the disease. So, you can't say that homosexuals will spread disease without acknowledging that heterosexuals will do it too...

I love how you guys aren't directly challenging anything I'm saying, especially when I never said that religion should dictate our society. I merely stated that it still should be taken into consideration today.

Anyway, to clarify a few things, I'm not a Christian or a Republican. I'm a South Indian libertarian who decides the position on an issue by situational basis and the merits behind each stance.

common belief and rumor don't constitute fact.

I concede that heterosexuals spread AIDS as well but would like to note that the rates of disease infection are higher among homosexuals. Anyway, that wasn't really my strongest point for not supporting gay marriage.

"goes against the moral beliefs of a nation that is though not a theocracy or a nonsecular state, was stilll founded upon Puritanical beliefs and still values the mainstream religious beliefs"

let's keep religion out of personal liberties, shall we?

All one has to do is stick themselves with an unsterilized needle (like those used in the tattoo shops) to get AIDS. In addition, one homosexual person cannot reproduce during homosexual sex. Therefore on one encounter one person can be affected. Heterosexual sex involves offspring, and as many as 10 people can be infected at once-the woman and the nine children born.
