@AcceptableName Yeah, my school is predominately white. I guess that’s why I’m such an easy target for people. I also live in the South which happens to be the most racist and divided region out of all the regions in USA. I try my best to ignore it. I agree that education is my only way out of this.
@megustatu I “waste” every Saturday. I always start my homework at 7:00PM on sunday and 7:30PM on weeknights. However, I have a genuine interest for the classes I am in. I try to pay attention and learn the material. Because of this I spend significantly less time studying and doing homework than some of my other classmates. If you don’t feel like you have a genuine interest in the topic, it might be a little harder, but if you’re dedicated and motivated to learn, it shouldn’t be unmanageable.
@Coldsummer123 you’re right. Social studies has always been my best subject I’ve been making a’s in social studies my whole life. Math and science are also pretty interesting to me. English is my weakest subject and I’m wondering whether it was a good idea I should be taking honors or not. Studying for tests is more of problem for me than doing homework. I sometimes have to stay up really late on weekdays to study for tests and it sucks.
@megustatu I feel ya. English was never my subject either. In fact, my english class this year is my least favorite class in all of high school. The question I think you should ask yourself is whether or not it will be worth it in the long-run? For me, my thinking was always that I’m going to be in school anyway, might as well learn the most I can and not waste my time. Do you have a guidance counselor you could talk to? Additionally, have you spoken to other students who have taken the classes before to gauge their level of difficulty?
@Coldsummer123 Yeah I’ve talked to a few. I know this one 10th grader who is taking ap euro and he said he including half of the class is failing. That wasn’t good news to hear for me. My current social studies teacher told me ap euro is a lot of memorization and I’m really good at memorizing things because that’s how my brain works. I also heard English honors at my school isn’t really hard it’s just more reading outside of class and more writing. I know a class like English might not be worth it but you pretty much have to do it if you’re trying to get into a good college and be a competitive applicant right? Are you taking English honors or ap and how is it?
@megustatu I think about hanging myself on the projector in 1st period cuz im so tired
@megustatu My school is almost definitely different from yours so take this all with a grain of a salt. I’m taking AP and it’s my most challenging class. I don’t agree with the teaching style, although I love the books we read. I don’t agree with his arbitrary grading scale. However, all I have to do is read and do an essay every now and then. It’s not very demanding. Keep in mind that I’m a senior.
I took regular english my first year and found it excruciatingly boring although, looking back on it now it probably was necessary. Through that class I learned the foundations of essay-writing. I think that in the lower-level classes they assume you know less and teach you the foundations and how to write in a much more approachable and comprehensive way, whereas in a more advanced class they would consider it to be understood and breeze over it.
No, you don’t need to take every honors and ap to be a “competitive” applicant. What’s best for you might not be the same for others. If you learn more in the regular class it’s certainly more valuable and will better prepare you for success next year. You could also always talk with your teachers and the teachers of the classes you’re considering and ask their opinions.

Interesting article. At my school, the problem with being in a standard class is NOBODY takes class seriously. Maybe 1 or 2 people but 95 percent of people who are in standard classes at my school joke around, don’t pay attention, disrupt the class and piss the teacher off because the teacher has to repeatedly say stop talking. I took standard English this year and that’s how my class is.
APUSH is my only AP class, and I average six hours of sleep on weekdays.
Taking 5 AP’s, with a job afterschool. Usually run on about 4-5 hours m-f and 8 saturday and sunday haha. I think this is really bad, but I actually feel refreshed when I go to sleep at 1 compared to if i go at 12 or 11:30 because I know my REM sleep schedule pretty well, and I am out of REM every 2 hours, so if i sleep at 2 hour increments, I will be less tired than if I went to sleep at 12 and had 2 2 hour increments and half of one… I dont know if this makes sense but yeah. Get your sleep!! Or you’ll be walking around like a zombie, like me!
@sprights For some reason when I only get 4-5 hours of sleep I don’t really feel tired at all, but if I get Atleast 8 hours, I feel tired.
