Argh I Only Have Reaches!!!!!

Hey I'm an international and this is what I've come up with...

Reaches:
-Stanford
-Princeton
-Amherst
-Harvard
-Yale
-Columbia
-Brown
-Duke
-U Mich Ann Arbor

I need to narrow this down......
and also fine some good matches and safetys!
help please!!!!

NYU, The New School in NYC, Duke, Goucher, Tufts, there are thousands of colleges.....what are you looking for?

I want to get into a med school later on ... but I don't really want to do a biology major or anything. I'm not sure what I want to get into.. BUT I do know that I need to find some institutions with good research opportunities for undergrad...

Brandeis, Vassar, Carelton, Wes.

As long as you take the science you need for MCAT the schools care NOT what your undergrad major is......all can get in. As for research it is available many/most places in my experience. Research is not all science you know.

It is very difficult to get into US Medical schools as internationals, or so I have heard. If you need financial aid then, you do not have much choice beyond the best of the reaches (HYP).

Are you speaking public or private.......money may be hard at public but I have not heard so much about private schools.

Well I suppose if s/he gets in one of the top private universities, 100% of need will be met, but the admission rate for those spots at the non-need-blind universities is what, 1%?

Penn also has a medical school......why did you not have this on your list? IF you are looking for safety and research and premed......Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN......state school but you can gain admission for sure. Money I cannot answer. Science is all there and of course Indiana does have a medical school.

You really need to carefully read the financial aid policies at each school because when a school states that it is need blind and will meet 100% of demonstrated need, they are talking about U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Keep in mind that there is only a small handful of schools that are need blind to international students. Those that are need blind and meet 100% of your demonstrated need are amongst the most competitive and you willbe applying against a large international pool of students for less than 100 spots.

Columbia states the following:

*** Financial Aid Application Process for Foreign Students ***

Foreign students are those who do not fall into any of the following categories: citizens and permanent residents of the United States, citizens of Canada, persons granted refugee visas by the United States, Citizens of Canada will require visas to study in the United States but are not considered International for financial aid consideration.

At this time, financial aid for foreign students at Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is very limited. However, each year several foreign students are admitted to Columbia with a financial aid package which helps cover educational expenses that student and family are unable to cover.

As a foreign student, you should determine what part, if any you feel you and your family can afford to pay each year during your four years of study. If you feel that you will be unable to bear the entire cost on your own, you should apply for financial aid at the same time you apply for admission.

If you are traveling to Columbia from another country you will also want to consider your travel expenses.

Financial Aid for Foreign Students
Columbia has very limited funding for foreign students applying either as first-years or transfers, and competition for these funds is very keen. If you are a foreign student admitted to Columbia with financial aid, you will continue to receive aid for each year that you demonstrate need; if you are a foreign student admitted without aid, you might receive it later only in the case of drastic and unforeseen changes in your family's circumstances.

Foreign applicants admitted to Columbia College with financial aid join a very select group of foreign students called the Global Scholars. Fewer than ten per year can be accepted, so it is a very rare distinction indeed. Because the SEAS community is so small, foreign applicants to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science who need financial aid must be considered on a case-by-case basis; candidates should be aware that such awards may not be possible every year.

Brown Financial Aid :

*Brown meets full demonstrated need of all admitted students who have applied for financial aid. Financial aid for foreign citizens, however, is limited. If you wish to be considered for financial aid at any time during your four years at Brown, you should apply at the time of admission. All financial aid at Brown is awarded solely on the basis of financial need, which is determined annually by our analysis of applications submitted by students and their families. *

Duke

Foreign Citizens

There are two applicant pools for foreign citizens: those not applying for financial aid who will be considered for admission along with U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents, and those applying for financial aid who will be considered in a separate process for a limited number of places in the entering class.

Foreign citizens who are not U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents applying for financial aid must submit the International Student Financial Aid Application along with a copy of their family's most recent national tax forms. The financial aid application is available on the Financial Aid Office Web site and should be submitted with the admissions application.

Penn

If you are a Non-Citizen

The University is able to offer financial assistance to very few students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., Canada or Mexico. Therefore, most non-citizens should plan to meet expenses for their entire schooling before applying for admission. Because the offer of admission for non-citizens is directly linked to their ability to meet these expenses, candidates who can pay for their schooling are urged not to apply for Penn-sponsored assistance.
