Why are people always complaining about having so much homework/not having enough time for homework/studying? We have sooo much time to study. I study for about 4 hours (or more) everyday and I also do 'non-academic' reading for another 1-2 hours per day and I still have hours upon hours of downtime

Ummm. . .what planet are you from??? Or are those hours of downtime the hours you spend asleep?

They're probaly in a different program than you and have a different course load. Also, maybe they have more extracurriculars. Who knows, maybe they like to not work for more than 4 hours per day.

I feel the same way. People were saying that college is an unbelievable amount of work, but with just one to two classes a day I end up with a ridiculous amount of free time.

It depends on the classes you're taking. Some classes require as much as 300 pages a week of reading. Others have 15 hour problem sets. Depending on how fast you read and what collection of classes you take, your free time can vary a lot, even for the same person semester to semester.

well join some clubs or try out for a play or something then! facebook is always an option haha

the first two weeks is not an accurate measure of "free time"...the work tends to build up, and around exam week, it'll get pretty hectic. of course, some ppl are either geniuses or don't care enough so they'll still have plenty of free time.

I could never study for four hours a day.

I would die of boredom.

My major doesn't really require that though so I don't even think I'd have enough material to study that much.

The whole "two hours per hour" thing is a hoax. Everyone has different study times. Maybe people who are slow readers need the two hours, but four hours of studying per day is too much for the average person.

I limit myself to two and a half hours outside of class unless I have a test, in which case I will often devote three hours (but that extra time to other work, like if I am working on practice problems or something). And never do it all at the same time. I like to break my study sessions of about an hour up with TV or something.

And I agree, there is way too much free time in college. Thankfully being at home I still get called into work now and then so that gives me something to do with myself (and earn some money). If I work it's only a PM shift due to my schedule so it's usually no more than four hours, giving me, even after a bit of studying, a ton of free time. That's why I'm on this board so much I think.

Try doing a three hour lab plus one hour tutorial and three lecture hours times FOUR. Then add another three hour class for my elective. Then don't forget all the homework and lab reports that have to be written. Then talk about "free time"
Every different program has different hours and level of work so don't make assumtions about everyone. Also you leaving out part-time jobs which tons of people have to do inorder to support themselves in school.

Ummm. . .what planet are you from??? Or are those hours of downtime the hours you spend asleep?

Today, I woke up at eight and did homework at 8:30 (I had a 4 page paper to write, a biology test to take, 30 pages of philosophy text(assigned), 15 pages of philsophy text (unassigned, for review), 3 chapters of biology text, 20 philosophy questions, 25 pages of reading for english, 3 response questions for english, and I had to get started on another essay for english class) I stopped at about 11, went to class from noon till 2:30. Got back did another hour of homework (i couldn't come up with an idea for my essay) and then at 3:45, I read a book I am reading for fun. I stopped at 4:45 and I have had nothing to do since.

PS I am a member of 3 clubs and I'm looking to join a fourth

God, if I had all that work to do, Id be ready to drop out. I just couldnt handle all that. I've had loads of free time this week, the first week. Today I had class from 9-11, and another from 4:30-5:45, and that's it. The rest of the day I've done whatever. Next semester, I'm not having my classes so far apart. I hate having nothing to do when my friends are in class :(.

Most of what took me so long wasn't assigned, but I really have nothing better to do than study.

you joke...get a hobby. 6 hours of academic plus classes plus sleep and you don't know what to do. make friends? i know that sounds weird buuuut they can be fun. trust me.

you must be an alien. seriously. teach me how your people do this.

*but seriously, do you sleep? how many hours? because you cant seriously do that many hours of homework/studiying on top of class and STILL have so much free time left. if you do get decent sleep, then i suggest you join a club or be social in some way (make friends!); you seem like the kind of person who rushes straight from class to the library, and does nothing but study.

Well, you are correct. I have yet to make any friends here. I'm pretty shy and it seems like everyone else has already gone into their own little circle of friends

Just walk up to people/sit with them at meals or library. Join clubs before its too late. Intramural sports rock too.

I sleep from 12-8. I don't go to the library, it's too quiet for me. I prefer to study in my dorm room.

everyone has a different program, different school, different profs, different major, different classes, so it all depends. some people have tons of freetime, some have tons of work with little freetime. thats the way i look at it.

I'm far too shy to do anything like that

I've joined the history society, the philosophy club, and the environmental action group. I'm going to join College Libertarians, but haven't done so yet.
