Hi, I’m currently looking at transferring to an online degree program. I am hoping to do marketing. ASU offers a marketing degree online and Harvard Extension school offers an extension studies degree with specialization of business admin with a minor in marketing. Any advice? I am a community college honors student looking to do online because I work full time. Many thanks for your input.

Also, any ideas of a great undergrad major for someone successful enough in graphic design to work as a designer in marketing at a bank? All I can come up with is “marketing degree” but maybe other people have ideas.

@mj415510 Note that Harvard Extension programs aren’t fully online; they expect you to complete at least some coursework on-campus. This may be an issue if you don’t live in the Boston area.

Yes I know. Harvard Extension school said I could complete the on-campus requirements in 4 weekends over the course of the degree

Just wondering if the value of Harvard Extension School (self-declaring as an extension school, even on the diploma) exceeds something like ASU Online (being an online extension of a state school, with less of a reputation to uphold so it awards degrees with the major declared, rather than in “Extension Studies” as with Harvard).
I know it’s all online and thus sketchier, but online is all I can practically do.
I care most about the quality of the education, even if it is online. I live next to UC Berkeley and understand that Berkeley Extension is its own animal, mainly for certificates and whatnot, and not really associated with UC Berkeley except maybe in name and record, uncertain about the rest. But it is respectable for a certificate I know.
I guess reputation matters too
It can be expensive to visit Boston, but I think that it’s worth the trip. It’s an amazing city and the Harvard Campus is legendary. Okay, it’s actually a bit small and shabby compared to some of the big, new campuses built by some of the huge state schools, but it’s got such history.
At Harvard you have to take 3 classes and get a B or higher on all of them to be admitted. Financial aid is not available until you are admitted and those first three cost around $3k each as I remember. You also have to take 2 writing courses, no matter who you are and what you have done before.

I would actually go to Arizona State online. Here’s why:
ASU, like many state schools that offer online programs, most likely offers the same degrees that they do for in-person students. Thus, I believe you obtain the exact same degree (though, of course, you will want to email them to verify that is the case for both your transcript and diploma).
Harvard Extension School is the continuing education wing of Harvard. It is NOT as prestigious as the “regular” divisions. Among the educated circle, most people know exactly what Harvard Extension School is and what is required to be admitted. I would NOT say it is more prestigious than the average state school whatsoever, and over the years, there have been people who have actually gotten into trouble by misrepresenting their degrees from HES as the traditional Harvard undergraduate degree.
This is a bit different from other non-traditional programs at other Ivies. For example, at Yale, Eli Whitney students receive the exact same degree and take the same courses. At UPenn, LPS students receive the same diploma (but their transcripts do note “LPS”). Harvard Extension School is not remotely like the rest of Harvard.

@thetransfercoach: However, some of the HES profs also teach Harvard College classes and teach them the same way.
It really depends on what you are looking for.
Don’t expect the prestige of Harvard College from HES, but you probably would be able to fashion a more rigorous curriculum at HES (if you choose to do so).

I actually am at ASU right now for online looking to see into the Harvard Extension program! I honestly LOVE asu its sooo convenient, everyone is very helpful and nice, and also the courses are all completely online and very easy to navigate through.
