STUDENTS AND ALUM PLEASE PUT YOUR INPUT
Background: I’m a Texas student with a 3.5 and 23. I am a legacy at Alabama. I don’t really have any ties with Arkansas (other than my boyfriend might go there) but I COULD possibly get their 70% in-state tuition given that my GPA might make up for my test score being 1 point below the required ACT. I am going to be an English major with hopes of teaching someday. Getting homesick is a definite for me, at least for the first few weeks, and I have family 1 hour outside of the University of Alabama. I also have a friend’s family 45 minutes away from UArk if I ever needed anything.
Why I need help deciding: Money is an issue. I have a TX Tomorrow Fund which will help pay for a lot of my college tuition, but both schools are still in the 30,000s if I don’t get any money. Yes, I applied for scholarships from both. No, I have not heard back. Yes, I am admitted to both schools. I plan to decide by April 1.
Questions: Will I be awarded the New Arkansan scholarship even if my test score is just one point below their requirement? I have the GPA!
Which school is more “serious” and will I benefit most from?
If I don’t get the New Arkansan, should I fight it and try to get it? That seems outlandish, I know.
If you can offer me any insight, please comment or PM me. I need advice in order to make a decision. I’m hoping for the best on these scholarships but I fear my tests are what’s going to hurt me the most.
