We will be spending 5 days in Williamsburg to check out William and Mary and Richmond during Feb. we are making a vacation out of it. Never been to Virginia. Aside from my daughter touring the colleges and sampling classes what would you suggest our family (17 yo and 14 yo) do for fun and history? Haunted night tour? Glass blowing museum? Any shows or trial re-enactments?
Historical Williamsburg. It’s a destination in itself.
Colonial Williamsburg has evening activities as well as daytime ones. There is also an indoor water park a few miles away called Great Wolf Lodge (maybe better for younger kids, though).
The cities of Norfolk and Richmond are easy drives away and have a variety of museums. I particularly recommend the science museum in Richmond, if your kids like that type of thing.
Virginia Beach is a nice beach resort town but probably not much fun in February.
There is an outlet mall near Williamsburg.
If you haven’t been to DC, would be a great day trip (about 3 hours from Williamsburg). Richmond actually has quite a bit to offer. Historical Williamsburg is great! Enjoy!
You also may want to check out UVA (only about 90 minutes from Richmond). Charlottesville is a cool town.
Our kids loved the Colonial Williamsburg ghost tour, and a program called Cry Witch! where they reenact a witch trial. They also had a blast at Busch Gardens!
