My daughter will be moving in to Tower A on August 25. Please give me advice on what to expect that day and anything I can do in advance to prepare for the madness. Is it better to arrive early in the day or later? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

You should have received your Arrival Survival packet in the mail with the parking pass/dining vouchers and other info.

Son was on the 10th floor in Tower A – it had only one elevator going to that floor so we had to wait awhile (it had the longest line due to the elevator situation). They had a student volunteer operating the elevator so be patient. Also the parking lot under the Towers was full when we got there so we parked on the street and had to roll the stuff through the quad and into the Towers. We brought our own hand cart (in addition to the cart that Pitt provided) which was a great help!

They do have a suggested time for arrival (in the booklet). It seemed like there was a steady stream of people all day but I would say if you can get there early in the morning then do so.

This year we get to miss all that action as he is volunteering for Arrival Survival so he gets to move in early (YEAH!!).

Advice: Go really early, like even an hour before it officially begins. Alternately, it is easier to move in the evening. Both of these strategies will allow you to park closer and spend less time waiting for elevators.

In the packet it said something about when you could move in, depending on your last name, like l-z was 11:00-2:00, can we go earlier or do we have to follow this?

We had very good luck arriving a few days after my daughter’s official arrival! I wouldn’t recommend this for a freshman, though. They need to be there for orientation. We plan on doing the same thing this year! No lines, no wait. We even used a Pitt cart.

Question: How big are the provided carts? Are we talking little luggage cart or behemoth dumpster heavy-duty cart? Just curious how many trips I’ll have to make…

Also, random: anyone know the size of the windows in Tower B are?

Carts are behemoth…students can and do ride in them.

Windows are equipped with vertical blinds and you don’t need to bring anything.
