Art Center Viability, any Good Alternatives?

Hi, I am new to this website,
I am a senior in highschool and I have a few questions regarding my dream career in transportation design.
-Do you know of anyone that went to Art Center? and by any chance, received a degree in Transportation Design?
-Do you know if the Transportation Design Degree is worth the money?
-Art Center has trimesters and I am aware that it can get expensive, but could it be manageable if I don’t have much saved?
-Is it worth applying for if I’m poorer?
-What are some relatively inexpensive transportation design schools?
Thanks!

“Transportation design” sounds like a fascinating major. Just remember that “transportation” may be an industry-specific job so make sure you receive enough general training that if funds dry up in one sector you can move to another. For instance, interior design for Light Rail might be too narrow, design of multi-passenger vehicles (interior and also exterior) would make use of a variety of design skills.

Also, make sure you do receive enough general foundation training so that you are well versed in aesthetics and design theory in general (2D, 3D and 4D). That basic knowledge will serve you well regardless of what industry you end up working in.

Good luck!

Ok, Thanks for the reply!

Art Center is a very impressive place; the work the students produce is first-rate. But it’s pricey and doesn’t give much merit aid. Also, I don’t pretend to know much about the Transportation Design major, but I did meet a lawyer a few years ago who graduated from Art Center with that degree. He loved cars and wanted to design them even though he didn’t have much art training. He was rejected once and had to work his butt off just to get in, taking drawing classes on his own. Even then he felt like he just didn’t have the drafting/drawing talent to compete.
