<p>1) Is Art Center worth being $100,000+ in debt?
2) It OTIS really that bad of an art school?</p>
<p>...I remember talking to the counsellor at OTIS and him stating that if you're good, it doesn't really matter what school you go to. I think I'm beginning to believe that. Art Center has a damn powerful name and an even better illustration program (has the EXACT courses that I want in an illustration program), but I'm starting to get second thoughts about my decision. Everything's pretty much in my favor except the obsene amount of $$$. It's really starting to **** me off too...=S....</p>

<p>Not necessarily. When I went there for night classes (about a year), I genuinely enjoyed looking at the work displayed on the walls. And they've got some pretty decent resources in terms of things like screenprinting, letterpress, woodshop... But I had some bad experiences with the administration there. To their credit, they did their best to make up for what happened, but there was definitely a degree of disorganization that could be get old after a while.</p>
<p>And yes, a good part of your education is what YOU make of it. Look at the Adobe semi-finalists list that RainingAgain linked to in another thread: yeah, you see a lot of Art Center, Ringling, etc. but you also see some totally random schools pop up on that list in a few places. Schools you didn't even know existed. That's a student making the best use of the resources available to develop their talent, and a great talent will be able to do that anywhere if they are determined to.</p>
<p>I'm not even going to touch question #1, though. Only you can judge that for your situation.</p>
<p>i'm going to be attending art center in the fall. i was accepted to both otis and ac, and i have to say that before i got my admission to ac, i was really disappointed and scared that i would have to go to otis. it's not necessarily that it's a bad school, but in my own opinion, it wasn't a good enough school for me to spend a gratuitous amount of money (art schools and their tuition... ugh) for an art school that isn't on the top of its game.</p>
<p>if you want to go into illustration, risd and ac should probably be your top choices--i've never met anyone who has graduated from art center that hasn't regretted going there, and despite the fact that the staff and quality of work in the students is allegedly going downhill, the art center name really does have a standing, especially right out of college.</p>
<p>i'm thinking otis is a relatively good art school, but art center will really work you (being a work college) and will hopefully help you excel in the field you want to go into.</p>

<p>i grew up on the north east side of la, around glendale and pasadena, and as
an artist even as a child i knew about art center, through out high school i considered it, even when i went to pasadena city college for two years it was on my mind, but i wasnt sure if it was the right choice. After research and reviewing students illustrations, i didnt think that it was all it was cut out to be.
true, art center has a great reputation and it is a great school, but i must say the illustration coming from there does not impress me. i decided on otis, i must admit the student work there at the time wasnt fantastic, but i could tell the setup and resources there could allow for a great education. as an otis student here is what an illustration student should notice what otis really has going for it. </p>
<p>A great foundation program</p>
<p>fantastic illustration faculty, who really care and have great critique
methods</p>
<p>strict requirements, 3 absences and you fail a class</p>
<p>they encourage exploration of the other majors (taking digital media classes)</p>
<p>most importantly they nurture your style while enforcing important skills
and technique.</p>
<p>I must say that the future illustration classes to come out of otis, will not only rival art center but will show them up, it is important to always realize that it is th student that makes the education, if you show up to class high
you will fail, just like you will at art center. they are both great schools, it is entirely up to the student to decide what they want to get out of an education.</p>
