We would like to know about the fine arts & graphic design program at Elon. We know that the university is putting a lot of money into Communications and have heard rumors that they are also planning to expand the Arts. Do you know any details? Does this also include digital arts and animation?

Hey! Not very involved in the arts dept, but just wanted to say that I know Elon put in Arts West a couple years ago, and it is an amazing new facility. They have state of art labs and a digital classroom, photo lab, black room etc. housed in that building. Check out Arts West on Elon’s weBsite and see what you find. Elon also even more recently put in Scott Studios, another expansion of the arts, however Scott Studios focuses more towards the performing arts. (There’s also a popular communications design major that I believe deals with animation and some digital arts- not positive about that, though.)

My daughter is a first year and started Elon not really knowing what she was going to end up studying. She is a photographer and knew she wanted to pursue photography at least as a hobby. She took it upon herself to find the darkroom on campus and in the process came across a Photo Journalism professor who has taken the time to talk with her a couple of times. He listened to her talk about her interests and suggested she might be interested in a new major, Communication Design. She is so excited about this. I’m not sure exactly what it includes but your student may find it interesting. My daughter plans to major in Communication Design with a double minor in Digital Art and Psychology.
It sounds like to me that the Communication School at Elon encompasses many areas and I am sure that you can find many people that would be happy to talk to you about their well respected programs.
The Communication Design major as well as their Independent major look very good. Thanks for the tip!
