Does anyone know anything about this class? I've never heard anything about it and am just wondering how hard etc... it is. What about for a self studier??

well....its not terribly difficult. Just a lot of memorizing. for us..there was numerous field trips which took up all day.

I want to self-study it but have no clue where to begin.

Any suggestions?

Look for the textbook
Gardner's Art through the Ages

It's an absolutely great resource.

What is AP Art History anyway? I understand it's a form of history (doh) but do you have to be an artist to take the class? I'm sort of interested and I can't even draw a line. Per favore, explain!

It's just a general survey course about the History of Art. No artistic talent needed! IMO, it could be self studied by a motivated student with a proper text. Ordering and practicing with old AP tests wouldn't hurt either.

It's basically just a class about analyzing art in a similar way as you would analyze literature in an English class- looking at various artists, their styles, and what they were trying to convey in their works.

I'm also interested in self-studying for the Art History AP test. I'll check out Gardner's Art through the Ages, but what test-prep books (Barrons, Princeton Review, etc) would you guys recommend? How tough are the essay questions? What's the average score for ppl. who take it?

There's no prep book for it at all.

buy stokstad's art history, revised second edition...you can get study guides for that book

The Gardner's book is HUGE!!! Go to collegeboard.com where they have some free response questions from past years.

im taking the class right now and im completely lost as to how im going to study for the ap. the text book is huge and there's no way to go back to every chapter for review. also, no review book is offered except for the annotated mona lisa which sucks. its more of a book of picutres than an actual review book. also, we havent really done and essays/mult choice in class so im really worried.

I really need to know a good book for this....so bump
