Does anyone have any positive or negative commentary on the art history program at Amherst/the opportunities available to art history majors from Amherst? Much appreciated.

Don’t know whether you are already intending to matriculate at Amherst, but if you’re still investigating options, Williams has (hands down) the most distinguished Art History department among the top LAC 's (with alumni directing some of the nations top museums, including MOMA in New York, the national gallery, etc.).

Williams is most definitely near the top of my list! However, I’m only a junior so I still have some time to consider my options. The main reason I also posted on the Amherst site is because the location of a medium sized college town/city is more appealing to me than the relative isolation of Williams… which is not to say Williams is at all culturally isolated, because the Mass MOCA and Clarke Gallery both definitely provide plenty of that.

Williams would be my top choice automatically (because of the art history program), but I’m somewhat worried I wouldn’t fit in very well there. I’m not really into team sports, my friend group is very diverse racially and socially, I’m a bisexual male, and I’m very liberal. I don’t know if you’re in a position to say this, but do you think I could still fit in at Williams? My main concern is of course the quality of education (which is clearly excellent) and preparation for grad school/a career, but I think the social aspect is probably somewhat important as well.
