Art School admission 2018

Also, I would just like to highly recommend the USPS informed delivery function if any of you are as impatient as I am to receive college decisions…I’m sure a lot of you know about it, but registering for it let me know that there was a package coming from Sarasota, Florida about a couple of days in advance before getting the package from Ringling…lol. Some people don’t like to ruin the surprise, but I like to know as soon as possible, haha.

Checked informed delivery again…package is coming in from Baltimore, same address as MICA…

Sorry for the triple posting…but I got into SCAD!! Lots of good news this week

Congrats @pastelrain !!
That’s amazing.

Congrats, @pastelrain!! The good news just keeps on coming!
And yep, I, too, subscribe to the USPS informed delivery thingie. It does ruin the element of surprise, but I like to come what’s coming!

Love USPS informed delivery!

@pastelrain what great news! You are on a roll! Is Ringling in the lead?

@IDtoTX sure is! Did a month of precollege and fell in love with their illustration department. I originally wanted to get out of the south but the experience there really did change my mind. However, the only thing that can really beat Ringling is RISD, which is frustrating because I don’t find out about that decision until two months from now…UGH. It’s my reach school so I don’t really expect to get in, but it’s worth a shot.
MICA and SVA are also up there too. I was really impressed with all of their illustration facilities. My parents are worried about the safety of Baltimore and NYC (and frankly, so am I) which is something I’ll have to do more research on if I get a really nice financial aid package from one of them.

@pastelrain Some people love NYC and thrive there, for others, it’s just not the right fit. But I will go out on a limb and say that safety should not be a real concern. SVA is located in a very safe area. My own two daughters, who went to NYU, currently live on 23rd street over on the West Side nearer to the SVA theatre (my oldest has been there for 5 years) and I feel very comfortable with them there. Yes, you need to use common sense in all areas…but NYC is a safe city these days.

Good luck to you and congrats on the awesome admission choices you have!

I just heard last Thursday and I got in! It only took 2 months for admissions to get back to me but I’m glad I know now.

@bsue913 which school? that’s great though!!

@cag60093 I looked at the FA package from my sons Drexel offer. He did receive the Founders Scholarship (18K) and the Westphal Portfolio Scholarship (5K).

If I can find the Tyler offer I’ll post that info as well.

@pastelrain, you really don’t need to worry about safety in NYC if SVA ends up a top choice! NYC in general is probably statistically safer (at ALL hours!) than any of the other places you’re considering, and especially in the area where SVA is located. We live in NYC and I’m far, FAR more worried about sending my kid off to Baltimore (since MICA is currently her top choice) than I ever am having my high-school-aged daughters roaming around Manhattan on their own/with friends! Anyway, I know you have many excellent choices, but don’t let safety concerns be a reason to push SVA lower on your list, that’s all I’m saying.

@itsreallymia2 That’s a nice size merit from Drexel. Thanks for sharing!

@pastelrain. I agree with @KCHWriter about not being concerned about the safety of NYC. There are so many great things about NYC; one of many benefits is that it’s a walkable city and the public transportation is so accessible. We live a suburb in the midwest. Cars are a necessity and my D hates driving.

@KCHWriter @cag60093 @uskoolfish Thank you all so much! I feel a lot better about it now, and hopefully my parents will too. As of now though, I am leaning more towards Ringling…RISD is my dream school but I’m trying not to get too attached to the idea of me going there, seeing as how competitive it is. (I know there will be A LOT of ice cream and tissues the week I find out though, lol).

Manhattan is very large and there are lots of areas that are dangerous, and vice versa. As far as SVA goes it is in 23rd street Chelsea, which is a very safe area. I did the precollege program over the summer and stayed after class for an in campus event, I had to commute back to NJ at like 10:00 at night and I definitely felt paranoid because of the stigma that New York has around it, but by my second week at Precollege I got confident after realizing that there was nothing to worry about and that I was in a very safe area, so don’t worry about that aspect as far as SVA goes. I don’t know about MICA though.

I got in to SVA! Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects, my first choice!

Congrats @bsue913 !!!
You must be very happy!

Woo-hoo, congrats, @bsue913!

Unrelated to admissions but I just found out I won a gold key in scholastic and my portfolio got an honorable mention  yay
