Art school status? (Remote only vs hybrid vs fully in person, dorms open vs dorms closed)

DS’s college (Pratt) just announced yesterday and the day before that dorms will be closed for fall and that foundation program is fully online (along with all of his other academic classes–which was already established when deposit was made). A lot of people are scrambling to figure out what to do now.

I want to get an idea of what the status is for the other art schools.

Are your dorms opened or closed?
Are the classes (particularly studio classes) remote, in person, or hybrid?

Ringling has in-person and hybrid classes with remote learning as an option. Dorms are open.

Parsons in NYC is fully remote and RISD is currently hybrid (but sadly RI rates are going up so hard to know if that might change).

I teach in a small art department in NYS and we are currently planning on going “back to campus” but I’ll be frank, it is NOT at all what we or our students are used to. We are following stringent state safety protocols (thankfully!) and it will not be like ‘regular’ studios. And any classes with enrollment beyond what the rooms can fit 6’ apart are hybrid models of instruction.

So read up on the college’s plans. A lot of colleges as of this week are shifting many things to online/remote. My kids have friends that are “going back to campus” but are discovering maybe only one of their classes are truly considered in-person.

And we’re ALL placing bets on how long this will last. The minute rates go up, positive cases are on campus etc…we all expect to pivot to fully remote learning.
