I just logged onto slideroom and it says the deadline for the Yale art supplement is Feb. 29th, 2016. Why is this so late? Am i looking at the wrong date or something? Most college begin to review applications beginning of February and considering the amount of applicants I can only assume Yale is the same if not earlier.
An art supplement is not a required element of an applicant’s file and is reviewed at the discretion of the Admissions Office, meaning that if Yale is seriously interested in an applicant after reading all the required elements of their file (Common Application with transcript, GPA, test scores, EC’s and essays, two teacher recommendations, guidance counselor’s Secondary School Report (SSR), supplemental essay, and interview report) they might review a student’s arts supplement, but there’s no guarantee. I imagine that’s why Yale’s deadline is so late in the process, so that Admissions can have 8 weeks to read everyone’s application without regard to supplemental materials and then only view those supplemental materials from the student’s who have made the final cut.
I also imagine a few student’s who actually make the final cut based upon the required elements of their file get yanked from the “final cut pile” due to their supplemental materials not being competitive enough. FWIW: Admissions Officers are very familiar with the AP Art grading rubric, so your materials need to be as good as a sample 6 portfolio: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/members/exam/exam_information/227305.html
@gibby , that makes sense, thank you so much!!!
