Does anyone know what the art department is like at the University of Chicago? It would be really great to hear some first hand experiences. Also, this may seem like silly question, but is it easier to be accepted as a fine arts student? My statistics are somewhat mediocre to low. Could you tell me what my chances are?
GPA: 3.8 from a community college in a suburb of Chicago
ACT:34
ECs: Average
I will submit Slides of my art.
Basically, do they consder your major during the admissions process?
Thank you in advance for any input!

well i have no idea about art. if you're really into art, i don't exactly see u of c as an "art" school per se , as you will be required to take many non art classes.

anyway, just sayin'

oh, your "statistics" are not low. your ACT score is good. oh wait, do you go to CC?

Yeah I do go to CC. I know U Of C is not an art school but, I am also interested in academic subjects.

Our fine arts department, from what I've heard, isn't bad. I mean, it isn't a bad one and its not outstanding, but satifactory. Here on campus film is probably the biggest of the arts, "doc films" and "Fire escape" are each awesome.

The Art Institute of Chicago is right in the downtown and offers General Study-type classes on weekends.

Thanks!:) I am considering this school!

From an observer's point of view, it seems like theater, music and film are more prevalent than art (especially film...Doc Films is one of the coolest groups at any school, anywhere).
