I have just finished with my 7th grade year,
I have found a C+ in art in my report card and I have a 3.85 GPA on the rest of the stuff... I also am taking Calculus with the former CSULA math dean... How much could this hurt...
I also fence (about #20 in the nation), I do competition math (about #400 in the nation all the way to 10th grade), I play cello (Suzuki Book 5 and i play at Colburn in SoCal), and i play the piano (CM level 5 with honors))
I will take math and physics classes at UCLA (Univ. of Calif. at Los Angeles)
I am NOT an artist, nor do i have any talent.
I plan to apply to Harvard Westlake in Los Angeles, CA and Exeter academy in Exeter, NH
How much can this bleeping art grade count...

Given the overall impressive (!) character of your record so far, I don't imagine a C+ in art will have much of an impact.

However, it does stand out as significantly at odds with the rest of your performance so you should be prepared to answer a question about it (perhaps in your interviews, if it happens to come up)...and it would be best not to approach your explanation with the phrase "this bleeping art grade" in mind. :) I don't think an admissions officer would want to hear about how unfair the teacher was, or what a waste of time the class was, or any other explanation that puts the responsibility for the grade on anyone or anything else other than you and your circumstances/interests/abilities.

you took calculus in seventh grade!?

I concur with smile dog. Try to do much better in art in 8th grade.

I hear the fencing teams at Lawrenceville and Masters are very strong.

hope to see you at exeter. i like you already =) haha

I honestly don't think it will be an issue -- from what you describe and your GPA (you don't claim to have a 4.0 in all other subjects) you are a student looking for a challenge, willing to take risks, intelligent but not perfect (believe me -- schools want humans, not perfect students). You have solid passions that you do very well in -- and are just like other middle school students in other subjects (art, for example).

I think you have excellent chances at both schools -- however, with admission as competitive as admissions has been lately, I would suggest adding a few more schools to your list. Better to turn down 5 schools and get into your favorite than to have nothing but waitlists and rejections come March.

i got a C+ in art my 6th grade year. bad chemistry with the teacher. anyway, i am headed to SPS in september so it did not hold me back. dont worry.

You could laugh and say something like, "Unfortunately, I was graded on talent, rather than effort. There were some great artists in my school....." Something that lets them know that you do appreciate art, you just don't have, as you say, any talent.

you don't have to send your 6th grade grades nhfootball player, so whether or not you got in with this grade its irrelevant

Well I feel pathetic. You are about 10 thousand times cooler than I was in seventh grade!!! And on roids in that smart department. Holy SCHNIZER! Calculus in 7th grade?!? Deary me, I'm glad you didn't apply this last year or I'm afraid I would not be going to Exeter this coming fall. Sheesh...

Oh, and about what you actually were posting about, I think you will be peachy in the art department.

You're crazy impressive, just laugh it off and say "Well, I hope you won't expect me to become the next Picasso, because while I try hard, I just don't have artistic ability".

I got a C for Art and I got into Exeter/Andover.

Calc in Grade 7 is awesome. I was proud of the fact I'm taking AP Calc BC as a sophomore until I met you :P

just kidding, I'm actually jealous of you all : )
