Article about new MT track at the Boston University School of Theatre

Wow! I keep wondering when Fordham will follow suit. At the last college fair my D and I attended the admissions representative mentioned that Fordham was thinking about adding a MT program.

I don’t think it was something that BU was particularly considering before they received this special large endowment for the purpose.

The donors visited the school during my son’s senior year (2012/2013) and met with some of the students. My son says that not all of those students found Lane and Comley to be personally appealing. However, many of the BU theatre students are very pleased that there will be a little more MT at the school.

Will this be a BFA Musical Theatre? I can’t seem to find specific info, like when the new track will be running. My daughter will be auditioning in the fall for entry in 2015. Forgive my ignorance, How does the BFA from Boston Conservatory figure in? Will there be auditions for both separately?

They’re totally unrelated! Boston Conservatory aka BoCo is a separate school with no affiliation at all with Boston University, other than both of them being located in Boston albeit in different parts of the city. Not sure at all about the new BU program but BoCo has auditions on-campus as well as at Unifieds, with a notoriously difficult (or wicked hahd as we say here) dance call… although my non-dancer S thought it was fun.

Thank you! Dont know why I thought BoCo was IN Boston University.

At the BU School of Theatre, students choose the Acting track or the Theatre Arts track at the end of freshman year. Both tracks lead to a BFA, and students from both tracks are in the casting pool. Presumably MT will be a third track that can be chosen. You’d probably need to contact the school to learn exactly when this will start and how things will work, though the article linked above does say the following:

So far as I know, BU will not offer a BFA in Musical Theatre, and I assume that auditions for the program will continue the same way as before.

BOCO And BU share faculty. My D is at BOCO
