Artist working scholarships. Feeling VERY lost!

Okay I'm working on collecting scholarship money for school, I want to attend Full Sail university, for the course I want to take the tuition will be about $68,000 at $2,000 a month. My thing is I've sent out about 25 scholarships and haven't gotten a thing. I'm using the Fastweb engine and scholarships.com, all i've been doing is filling out essays and it's driving me crazy. My mother keeps nagging me about filling out scholarship forms and what not but all I'm finding is essays. She also expects me to fill out 30 some odd scholarships A WEEK!!! But she wont take the time to figure out how the system works to see that isn't possible, and when I tell her this she calls me lazy. She wants to make it MY fault we don't have enough money for school.

So anyway here are some of my questions:

What are "scholarship forms" are they still just writing essays to send off to orginizations or are they literally filling out a form and sending it off. Also where do I go to fing them.

I live in Roswell, GA now, Full Sail is in Winterpark, FL, should I, can I apply for local scholarships there? Or should I wait until I am moved, which will be in December.

Agian I'm an artist so are the any good art scholarships out there. Kevin Lanning, an artist I follow, has said in an interview that he recieved a half scholarship in a portfolio competition. That would be right up my alley, I would like to find a scholarship like that at if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I am also looking to apply for college loans, my mother doesn't like this, she doesn't want me to graduate with debt over my shoulder. Any advice on college loans.

I'll bring the questions to an end right here, I have plenty though. If you guys need me to expound at all, what I am going to school for, why, what scholarships I've done, etc., just let me know thanks.

I'm not sure I can answer most of this but I'll post some answers and that will bump your post.
First are you a current high school student? If so, your guidance counselor should be able to help. From what I saw when my son was applying to schools and his friends were doing scholarship stuff they were successful in obtaining LOCAL scholarships. That would mean for instance, the local Rotary club giving some local student $500 to $1000. for college.
I am not familiar with the web based stuff but it would seem there are a lot of applicants for those.
With the local scholarships, often they are smaller amounts but they can add up and sometimes those local scholarships have very few applicants.
You would not be able to apply for local scholarship in Winterpark, as you did not go to high school there and are not known there.
There are probably art scholarships out there but I know nothing about them...
Other cc parents??
Also understand that often local scholarships are for the first year only.
That means that in the second year, you can't count on those funds.
Have you applied for financial aid through filing out the FAFSA and CSS Profile?
I agree with your mother regarding loans. You shouldn't graduate with a huge amount of debt, particularly if you are going into art.
It isn't a question of lazy or not, in my mind. It is a question of sitting down and coming up with a realistic plan.
Can your parents afford to pay anything toward the tuition? What about room and board costs?

You will definately have a better chance at local scholarships. In addition to speaking to your guidance counselor you should check out the websites of the high schools in school districts in your area. Many guidance offices post local scholarships on their websites.

How on earth do you(or your mother) expect to find 30 scholarships per week that you qualify for?? That's pretty tough. You say you haven't heard anything, but it's only November. I remember reading another post where someone applied for 68 scholarships and got about 4. I hope you have either amazing grades, awesome community service or outstanding writing skills. There is a lot of competition for these scholarships. Good Luck

Ebeeeee - I have already applied for financial aid, and that help some.

jjcddg - Yeah the 30 schols a week IS crazy :)

I think local scholarships will be a better bet for me after reading the posts here. Thanks you two for your help, if anyone else has answers to my questions you know what to do.

Thanks,
