Yay we got 10 finalists from my school- 2 theatre(1 spoken,1 musical);9 honorable mentions; and 19 merit (which I got). For all who got chosen to go, have fun and from the people who went last year: they all say it was the best week ever.

wow, your school cleaned up! do you go to interlochen?

I know my school has at least one finalist, one honorable mention, and two merits, but that's all I've heard about. I go to a magnet school for the arts.

Hey all! Congrats to all going to Florida this January. I'm going to Miami for Classical Voice, I'm a tenor...I'm the first one from my high school, it's pretty cool. I'm so excited for the week, it will be inspiring and so great. Congrats to everyone as well for honorable mentions and merits!
Good luck!

Anyone having this problem.

Going on NAFA site checking on get scores and it keeps coming up scores posted December 1st.

Thanks

I am LexiMOm. I dont know why?

yep it is interlochen...though we didn't do as well as we have done in previous years.

yep... i'm from interlochen too.... its been pretty exciting to hear about how well everyone has done! even if a lot of us werent finalists, to get an honorable mention was so rewarding!

I know that OCU's summer program awards scholarships for ARTS award winners. Does anyone know if any other summer programs do (like NYU, Michigan)? Thanks.

for all the interlochen kids, how many winners did you have this year in writing? it seems like you guys always clean up there.

Brbway, That is impressive. Does Interlochen offer any help to put together audition tapes/DVD's for NFAA in any way?

they just tape it for us, we get 15 minutes and we can bring 2 tapes. there is an accompanist but it's pretty bad quality video, nothing proffessional. but it's better than having to find our own way to do it, especially since our parents aren't here haha. we have 3 in writing going to Miami this year, 6 last year.

I wonder when they'll post the list of winners on the site? last year they did it right on the first.

(plus the score check thing says it can't be accessed. if i hadn't figured out that cached thing from you guys, a lot of my friends would still be anxiously waiting)

the NFAA finalists are up.

This is ridiculous. There is an honorable mention winner who spliced a song on the CD. Guess they can't tell after all. And the most talented/polished person I know didn't get jacksquat. She's way better than either of us, and even I got a merit award. What is going on?

it's subjective, your friend shouldn't take it too hard. i have a friend who's an absolutely incredible poet, and she didn't win anything either. you never know with these things.

oh, and final count for my school was two winners (both in theatre), two honorable mentions, and six merit awards. sweet :)

It's wonderful to win awards, but those who do not should NEVER think that they are not talented or deserving of recognition. No matter how well an arts competition is run, it can never be completely "fair" in the truest sense of the word, because there is so much subjectivity involved. One should do his or her best to enter these things with the attitude of "If I win, that's fabulous, but if I don't, it's fine, too." Of course, that's easier said than done. Congratulations to everyone: all who entered and won and all who entered and did not win.

I think it is a good experience to enter and go through the process. The way it is done, no one will know if you didn't "score" high, so it will not "hurt" you in any way if you don't get an award. And who knows you could do "well", so it's worth a try!

Anybody still getting letters from other schools re: receiving an arts award? We just got a very personal one from U of Miami. I'm just wondering if this is common for arts awardees (sorry if that's not a word!)

My daughter received an Honorable Mention in Musical Theatre this year. She also got a very nice letter from University of Miami. It is not one of the schools that she is looking at (and I don't know if she's got the test scores to get in academically, even though she has a good GPA at a very competitive school, just a very bad "timed" standardized test taker), but she may give them a call after the letter. She also received a letter yesterday from the University of Minnesota, although not on the personal level as the University of Miami.
