Arts/music supplement by self-taught non-major?

My daughter applied ED1 to one of the LAC’s. She’s a self-taught guitar and piano player, singer and songwriter. She’s written about 20 songs and they are good. She’s won talent shows, however, being self taught, she isn’t in the category of showing off amazing mastery of anything. There’s a place to upload arts supplements in the LAC’S portal. Is this something she should do? It’s cute but she’s not trying to come out as a great musician or anything. She won’t be a music major or anything–more along the lines of she’ll probably be part of some kind of band while in college, for fun, hopefully play in some clubs. She did mention guitar and music in her essay (although it isn’t the focus). Should she make some videos? Or are these supplements for those with serious technique abilities?

Can she just include on her application that she plays instruments, writes songs and has won talent shows? I think that would point out her talents to admissions officers as part of the normal process. Personally I would not send a music/arts supplement unless it is pretty extraordinary. Admissions officers get absolutely swamped with applications and I don’t think many of them would appreciate spending extra time reviewing a supplement that can be described as “cute”. Of course in the end it is your D’s application and her call as to what to do.

Yeah, she did put them in her activities. They are a little more than cute (teachers have forwarded them to other teachers at other schools and probably talked about it in her recommendations as well) but they are certainly not “extraordinary.” She isn’t the one who wants to upload them. We just questioned it because the LAC asks for it after the fact. It’s hard to tell if they REALLY want to see this. It has nothing to do with her major so I guess we’ll leave it as is, unless he gets deferred then maybe we can rethink… Curious what others did in this situation…
