I am planning on submitting an arts supplement with my application at some highly selective schools. I’m trained in a world music tradition (it will be a large part of my application), a regular performer, etc. and am going to put a recording of that into the supplement. However, outside of that, I also sing music along the lines of R&B/soul at a high level (untrained). Thus, I was struggling to find some songs that complemented my strengths but were also “accessible” enough to the faculty who would be listening (seeing as they seem more geared toward the Western classical music side of things). Typically, this ended up being jazz - I’ve landed on At Last by Etta James and Black Coffee by Sarah Vaughan. Does this seem like an acceptable mix of songs?
