I submitted my SCEA application to Yale a few days ago and am debating what to send in my arts supplement. (The quality of my writing isn’t at issue here-- I’ve been nationally recognized, etc.) For the other arts supplement disciplines like music and film, the Yale website states that the portfolio will be reviewed by Yale faculty, but there’s no such statement in the creative writing section. So will the admissions staff be reading my work? My poetry deals most often with heavier themes, but if admissions officers will be reviewing my portfolio, should I pick some less depressing pieces?
