Arts VS Athletics

So my top colleges choices are Columbia, John's Hopkins, and Princeton. Princeton being my number one college decision. I'm pretty well rounded in all fields such as grades, ECs, and hopefully standardized testing.

I wanted to know if it'll really stunt my chances of getting into these schools because I do not do any sports. Honestly, sports are just not my thing. I'm so athletically challenged that I can barely play tennis. However, I am a artist. I do a lot of commissioned work, I paint murals for charity, National Art Honor Society, and it's my biggest hobby. Besides that I'm also a Thespian in the International Thespian Society. I've been in several plays, the lead in a few, and planning on writing and directing one next year.

So me lacking that athletic component but being strong in the arts, would that really hurt my chances?

No sports no problem.

^That’s about right. Sports are only really a major help if you’re a top athlete who gets recruited.

I have a cousin who got into Princeton with no sports but who was really into art. I wouldn’t worry about not having sports.

Are you getting any exercise at all? Your health is more important than your admissions decision. If you do not feel you are capable of playing a sport, at least be sure to get outside and walk 3 miles every day.

There’s nothing to worry about, especially if you’re going to apply as an art major. Schools don’t really care about sports unless you’re trying out as an athlete.

For the majority of people sports are just proof that you can commit your time to something. If you can prove that you’ve committed your time to art, that’s just as good. Not to mention it’s probably more “interesting” considering that wider variety of projects/events that you can talk about.

Also, what’s with the knock on tennis? It’s much easier to catch or kick a ball around than it is to hit a three inch diameter ball using an artificial extension of your arm with any degree of precision.

Being a recruited athlete is a big hook, but they only make up about 17% of any class.

^ Yes, and for those who aren’t recruited, sports is just another EC, no better than many others.
