I've mostly been slacking along these past three years. For Freshman year, I was homeschooled (ugh!), and spent most of my life on the computer, absorbing whatever information I cam across like a sponge. When I hit sophomore year, I attended a public school, and did nothing in terms of extracurriculars (the school was an extremely tiny, with only three hundred students). Like freshman year, I spent most of my time on the Internet, learning odd skills and teaching myself some advanced math that my school couldn't offer. Now, it's past the latter half of junior year, and I'm feeling horribly depressed.

It isn't like this is something new. I have been hospitalized several times for issues related to my depression (suicidal threats, I'll leave it at that). For that reason, I miss out on a lot of school, although when I am at school I do very well academically (high grade averages and test scores).

What can I do in the meantime before I graduate high school. My dream school is MIT, but looking at what other CCers have accomplished, I feel my chances are bleak. I'm thinking of finally getting it together (and this isn't the first time I've tried that), and self-studying APs while competing in academic competitions (which my school doesn't offer either as of now, I suppose it's up to me to change that). My goals are to score extremely well on my SAT IIs (of which I haven't taken any yet, as of now), and make USAMO (a national math competition, I'm sure most of you have heard it) my senior year.

Some questions I would like to ask are:

Can you lists things you've done during the time between graduation and applying to college? As of now, I'm not planning on entering university immediately after high school. I'm planning on accomplishing even more things in the meantime, to make up for doing nothing for most of my high school career.

What exactly counts as an "extracurricular activity?" Does the fact that I've taught myself several programming languages count as an extracurricular? Or do I have to create some real apps and put them out in the world in order to list them on my college app? My school offers nil in terms of extracurriculars I'm interested in, so I guess I'll have to start some in the meantime.

For those in the class of 2013, would you take a few minutes to list some of the major things you've already done? I just want to have a tiny idea of who I'm competing with.

Thanks. =)
