As of now, what are my chances at Princeton University?

I am currently a freshman at a top private college preparatory school in my area. My current GPA is a 3.3, but only because I am taking an honors science course usually taken by strong juniors. I am taking the maximum number of courses, two of which are honors classes, while the rest are regular classes, as my school does not have honors History or English classes for ninth graders. I had two unsuccessful campaigns for student government, one at the class level and one at the school level. However, I was appointed to be an alternate representative for my class government. I am not currently involved with my school’s athletic program, but I plan to do two sports next year. I am a member of my church’s youth group. I am involved in my school’s Euro Challenge team. Every week, I volunteer at my local library. I was cast in my school’s spring drama production. Also, I was a judge in the elementary school’s science fair. I am a member of my school band. For next year, I signed up for maximum number of courses, with one being an AP course and two being honors courses, as my school does not have honors level English classes for tenth grade. My science and math grades are my lowest grades, due to those two being my two honors courses, and my science course being a strong Junior level course. I don't plan to take physics until my Senior year, since that would be the only year I would qualify for AP Physics. Also, I plan on doing my school's Peer Leadership program in my Senior year. Next year, I also plan on participating in the Model Congress and Model UN programs at my school. Also, I am a first generation Filipino American, if that means anything.

Generally, you want to be in the 3.8 to 4.0 unwighted GPA range, and 2100+ SAT Is, and two SAT IIs in the 700+ range. Also shoot for the top 10% of the class, preferably top 2%.

Try to focus your ECs on one or two passions, and pursue and expand them year to year. Since you are just a freshman, continue your hard work and review your transcript at the end of each year. By the end of junior year you will see if Princeton is a realistic goal. Good luck.

Zero without some significant adjustment.

Pick up an extracurricular where you can be exceptional, either published research with a reputable mentor or some academic or athletic achievement on the national level.

Most students here with hooks run along the lines of Intel finalists, USAMO winners, charity founders, or (inter)national level athletics.

Barring that, most students here have high 2300 SATs, 3.8-4.0 unweighted GPAs, and top 1% of their class.

Don’t worry about diversity in extracurriculars. Better to be exceptional at one than mediocre at many
