Asian Studies Linguistics/History Programs?

Hi all,

I'm a rising senior at a SUNY school with my major in Asian Studies and two minors, History and Political Science. High GPA, active in a ton of clubs, leadership positions, volunteering, the whole nine yards, almost entirely Asian-oriented. I have two questions that hopefully someone can help me with. Thanks in advance!! :)

1: What are the best Asian studies grad programs? My main interest is in linguistics or history, still making up my mind, but I want to hear about all the good ones before I decide. I've been poking around online, but every site would have you think they were the best program. I've heard the West Coast has the best programs- is this true?

2: How important is study abroad? I have the ability to study abroad for one semester, which isn't going to make or break my language skills according to my advisor (I've studied Mandarin for three years), but how do grad schools look at it? Would I be better off waiting until I graduate and applying for a fellowship, or going in undergrad?

Thanks!
