Since you're a British citizen, I'd say you're a Brit of Asian descent. :P Or however you say it over there in the good old UK. Saying that you're an "Asian-American" carries in the implication that you are an American citizen, which would not be true.

However, in the United States, "Asian" usually has the meaning of "person of descent from one of the Confucian cultures." I know that in the UK "Asian" generally means Indian/Pakistani and "East Asian" means "person of descent from one of the Confucian cultures." Maybe you'd like to consider yourself a British citizen of Indian descent.

Of course, it's ultimately up to you. :D

i am only a british citizen b/c my mom was born there and she passed down the citizenship to me. I only lived there for about a year.

thanks

anyone else?

dude...i am in the same situation as u, but only worse to some extent. i lived in india for 4 years, then singapore for another 6 years, and now in the U.S. for 6 years. We are citizens of India and Permanent residents of Singapore...and our green card is almost done but we don't have it in hand (like...we have our social security, alien reg #, employment pass, I-485, etc. but just not in hand yet...hopefully coming this month...i pray...) hopefully i don't have to apply internationally. so for citizen of which country i would put India, for permanent residency i would put Singapore as of now. LOL.

bump

probably a stupid question, but could checking one of them be beneficial in admissions? . ha sry just had to ask.

Bad news: Being Asian or Asian-American carries no advantage, and according to some it is a disadvantage at top schools. So, if you want to look for things that may benefit you, you may want to search for some other ethnicity hidden inside you. Look hard, because you HAVE to beat the system somehow. Isn't that the goal here?

ha. i wouldnt say the goal. i was just curious. i just want to portray myself accurately. i mean, if i'm good enough, they'll take me. if i'm not. i'm not. cant change that.
