Hi,
I'm a prospective applicant to Middlebury and I'd like to ask about Asians at Middlebury- are there a lot, are they typically quiet/studious or are they more diverse in personality and mentality, do they usually band together, do you know of any, etc.

I'm asking about 2nd generation Asians, btw not international applicants.
Thank you very much for your time!

Approximately 6% of Middlebury students are Asian. Compare that to 11% at Williams, 12% at Amherst, 11% at Pomona, and 14% at Swarthmore.

But are they typical or atypical? Does anyone else find this question odd?

Can I ask why you’re asking this? Are you Asian and wondering what your possible peers would be like?

I’ll answer your question though-- there aren’t a huge amount of Asians, the stat that arcadia offered sounds about right. I don’t find that Asian American students band together at all. The international Asian students, yes, but that’s more because of the international aspect. Are they quiet/studious? No more so than at any other liberal arts college I would assume. As an Asian myself, I don’t notice any huge overarching stereotypes for Asians at Midd. There are also Asian affinity groups on campus such as Midd Asian Student Org, Korean American Student Association, Chinese Club, Japanese Club (but this is more of a language/interest club), South Asian Student Association… None of them, except KASA, are terribly active.

Generally though, I wouldn’t make this a huge concern in your choosing a school.
