Asians at UCLA run in their own cliques: True False?

For the most part do people of asian decent tend to only hang out with other asians only? I just visted cal, and good god I would have to say this was true. Is this generaly true at UCLA? (and yes I know their are exceptions etc.)

something like 40% of UCLA is asian. there are plenty of all-asian groups/clubs/etc and im sure a number of asian people tend to run in their own circles (likely based on the fact that they're active in these types of groups).

the vast vast majority of asians at ucla intermix as much as anyone else. i have tons of asian friends who have tons of non asian friends. it just isn't an issue.

even if you find that there are groups of people who self-segregate (and there will always be groups of all sorts who choose to do this) it certainly isn't a fair or accurate way to describe any particular group/nationality/culture/whatever.

Definitely! A lot of the Christian groups fall into this category... with some that are more specific in regards to race/ethnicity.

I think I've observed more ties, initially, with students hanging out in their cliques from high-school and once they diverge into more specific interests (examples: specific ethnicity/culture groups, religious groups, community service, etc.) that we see any "cliques."

40% is about right. UCLA is not that diverse racially or surface-level. So it's a bit hard to see cliques or that sort of specific gravitation sans interests or hobbies.

yeah its very true many different types of people form different cliques

but theres more interaction than not.

If there's any comfort, I can provide a personal anecdote.

Despite the lack of racial diversity (and then its underlying implications in terms of diverse in its total or whole meaning with divisions across several spectrums), I've managed, without too much stress or effort, to observe 'diversity' in different forms outside of what's most visible about a person: race, sex, age, or heck, even religious beliefs despite, again, any sort of consideration to socioeconomic diversity and its paralleling (at times) constituents. UCLA's comparison to other universities, in this respect, might be less broken down or divisive but it does exist if you look beyond the surface-level. Whether or not its completely politically correct and accurate of a total population is a different issue that is, for the most, mostly negligent at this point and in regards to your experience. Find it. Embrace it if it's your desire and you shall get there!

It varies. Some asians tend to like to hang out with whites. Some don't. Personally, I do not have a preference, but I do notice that it is a bit harder to relate to whites, especially those from all white communities.

Well, there is a really cute white girl on my floor that I would like to hang out with some more. I wouldn't mind an interracial "friendship" with her.

rofl "interractial friendship" =P

I think people are just scared off by the names , but most Christian groups are certainly welcoming to everyone (of different backgrounds, ethnicities). Same goes with Greeks, but not as common. There are people of other races in the Asian Fraternities.

white girl on my floor = <3

<3 <3 <3

Seems like the majority of Christian groups are Asian. I can only think of one predominantly Caucasian.

90% of my friends are non-Asian, and im Asian
