asians

Hahaha... that's hilarious :P

Here's another:

An Asian kid is on the phone with his mother. He tells her that he's won the Nobel Prize for curing cancer. Her reaction -- "Yes, but what about AIDS???"

bwahahaha, that's a good one about aids!

sauronvoldemort,

How do you explain all the entrepreneurialism in East Asia, then?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVlIQpleZr8
Incredibly exaggerated, but I do think my parents' reactions would be something like that. Especially if the English B+ were replaced with a B+ in math.

My parents aren't that anal. They'll be happy with anything above rank 30 in USNews rankings, or lots of scholarship money. Of course, they absolutely despise anything that resembles "liberal arts college" or "non-research". But they don't care about my profession as long as it makes money and it's at least slightly academic. Then again, they both come from poor farming families, so they haven't adopted to super-anal traits of the mid-upper class Asian families.

Asian parents are not the only ignorant ones.

Many caucasian parents are the same way and do stupid things like think Upenn = Penn State.

I think it should be a law for parents to memorize the Top 25 in order to talk/advise their kids about college :)

Oh... I read earlier how someone said he was a failure because he was a 5' 10" Asian?

[/quote]

I was being sarcastic/facetious/whatever it is. :)

My parents used to insist that I become a doctor/engineer, but after having failed BOTH chemistry and physics, they're not insistent anymore. I'm planning on investment banking and then branching out into venture capital. :D

"I think it should be a law for parents to memorize the Top 25 in order to talk/advise their kids about college "

or maybe parents should be proud of a kid no matter what college they are attending and not care about the rankings but rather the kid's choice and what he is looking to get out of college...

my parents are so-so...(im asian)
they want me to get into top 50 schools in the doctorate ranking, not the liberal arts one.
also, if i get into top 20, half of the tuition must be scholarship from the college (this is fairly impossible because i am not stellar)

my sophomore year just ended and my grades werent as good as i hoped for and now they are really disappointed.

oh well.

OH BOy...that was like the funniest thing in a while...Since I watched the "got rice" thing on the internet...

WOW...that stereotype DEFINITELY exists not just with parents here, but with relatives in Asian countries. The schools they've heard about are limited...and so...yeah...

laughs Just yesterday, my mom was like U Michigan, what school is that? I'm not sending my child there!

laughS Then, my parents have the schools (only the Ivy's listed) Hm....safeties...CORNELL

me: WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

parents: Um.....

yeah....it's GREAT! -_-

actually, my parents know the majority of those schools =)

i have to disagree with this thread - asians aren't like that. and by posting this, you are only prolonging the everlasting stereotypes against us.

however i have to concede - asians in asia are like... =p

grandfather over the phone: "it's ok (my name).. don't worry.. if your grades aren't good enough for harvard, you can just go to yale"

^ i love my grandpappy!!

I cried when i read that....so funny, rolling on the floor with my bro and sis. my parents are totally like that... :)

I love the Carnegie Mellon one, because I want to go there. FOB definition was so funny...

I guess I want to go to a fruit or "out of the country" (u of mich)

For me, it's u of mich or I'm freaking screwed. it goes: Ivy or U mich or disgrace
plus they won't pay for anything else. since i live in mich, u of mich is gonna be cheap, and you know how asians are about money...$$$

yes, it's fun being an asian, you get to laugh all the sterotypes and know ya, other asians like me get the same joy/pressure/happiness/ and all around stress

the columbia one was the best

I just came here for less than 1 year. My parents don't really care about what college I'm applying to/ going to. They let me decide everything.
So, you are wrong. =]

I don't plan to get a PhD. The highest degree I'm getting is an MBA.

I hate science with a flaming passion.

I plan to major finance. Totally my decision.

I have a GPA south of 3.7 UW.

I have an SAT south of 2200.

My worst class is physics (barely scraped by with a B-)

etc etc etc.

woooooord xD

and hoganwan - totally agreed ;) about the them being wrong part lol (because parents still care)

re-reading this from a long time ago.. still cracks me up

Haha.

This is nearly exactly like my parents... except they want me to go to a school they know... a school they know being:
A. North Dakota State University
B. Minot State University
C. U of Minn
or
D. Harvard

I try to explain to them that just because they haven't heard of Washington University in St. Louis does not mean it is on the same level as WAHPETON! (aka the local 2-year tech school)

It has been a familiar by now. Asian "failures" who pin their hope on ibanking. Is there really a pot of gold there? Just what is ibanking and how do you make a pile of money. Who gives you money to play? Someone give me some actual examples, please.

Parent: uu neeed do go to Haaaa Vadddd, emmm ai tee, si dan fo
