Ask a current freshman anything.

Mega Bus runs from SC to P’burgh, at least twice a day. You need to take a CATA (local) bus to Walmart to catch it, but that is not difficult. Fares are as low as $1(!) and there is wireless. You can also take a Greyhound from the station that is adjacent to campus; check the Greyhound site for schedules.

periklis, The SLO (E House) will get you a double in West. The location is great for engineering students, though as a freshman you will be taking more general ed classes, which could be anywhere on campus. If you live in E House you will increase the likelihood of having a roommate that has a similar courseload to yours. (Engineering students are among the hardest working on campus.) The organized activities can make it a little easier to meet people.

Sorry I haven’t been able to reply too fast. Lots of exams just passed and I have a chemistry lab test outline to do, a computer science program to write by tonight (lol), and calc and physics homework.

I’m not really too sure about SLO information, I don’t know anybody in a SLO, actually. I’m sure you can have a good time in them, though. They’re just not… my style I guess. 1moremom has given a lot of good information on them already though.

Buses are always running from Pittsburg, Philadelphia, New York, and other places to State College every day.

nickis93: I find campus food pretty good here actually. West and Redifer (south) are my two favorite places. I work in the East dining commons so that may have lowered it in my ranks haha. Pollock is, eh. Never ate in North yet. Redifer has tons of options including a buffet. West buffet has tons of good food to eat.

EastCoaster00: It’s incredibly easy to make friends. You’ll make tons the first couple days/weeks as your RA is going to do a lot of ice breakers on your floor and hopefully organize events with other floors so guys and girls can meet. My floor is pretty tight with the girls floor’s above and below us. I met most of my “core group,” I guess, of friends over summer.

So the east dorms are the best dorms? Are they the most convenient dorms that are also nice (I heard some dorm rooms are bigger than others)? Also, when did you get your acceptance letter last year?

So by preference, what do you think the best dorms are for freshman at university park. Ill most likely try to get E house in West since I got into the engineering college but besides E house what is the nicest place?

which is considered more popular, pollock or south?

I have a dorm dilemma. I want to have lots of friends but I want to be able to sleep/study. East is where most of the freshman are but I hear it can get pretty rowdy. North is nice but has mostly upperclassman. My sister was in North her freshman year as a business major and said that she didnt meet enough people who wanted to go out on the weekends, etc. I dont know what to choose. She also did LEAP and was in South which had a great dorm size. Help!

As a freshman, are you allowed to bring a car? If not, can you bring one as a sophomore? I live in NJ so I’m not sure if traveling back and forth can be as easy as going from psu to ny

East dorms are the best for meeting new friends. They are the smallest though by a marginal amount. Rooms in South and Pollock are pretty comparable and they are also right next to each other, it’s pretty much one set of dorms if you ask me. Pretty nice rooms. Never been in a West dorm but they have the best food on campus in my opinion, it’s so good. North is pretty nice, room’s I’ve seen are like two South dorms connected with a little room in between.

Of all my friend’s who live in South and Pollock, if you can make friends with some of the upperclassmen there I’m sure you’ll have no problems finding somewhere to go on weekends. But it’s not that hard in the first place.

You can’t have a car freshman year, but you can during your sophomore, or during any summer sessions you might attend.

Thanks alot for answering all these questions first of all and second do you know when and how the football tickets are distributed to PSU students?

got the “coming days” status yesterday with no change in picture, got accepted into summer at University Park this morning. Does this mean I can attend UP in the fall as well?

volleyballgrl16, While freshman are not allowed to have cars on campus some do rent parking spaces off-campus. [state college parking & storage classifieds - craigslist](http://pennstate.craigslist.org/prk/)

You can get a freshmen waiver for a parking permit if you have a good enough reason.

Is there any particular SLO that is specific to Communication majors? Also, do all students who do the summer session stay in South? I was accepted for the summer and on my living preference it only has that living area…?

There will be announcements about buying football tickets. They’re sold online and you should be online as soon as they go on sale as they go pretty fast.

If you got accepted into the summer session, of course you continue on into fall.

No Comm specific SLOs as far as I know. You don’t get to choose where to live during the summer, they’ll assign you a building. This past summer when I did summer, all the kids who did LEAP stayed in either McElwain or Simmons (both South). The kids who chose to take regular classes lived in Beaver (Pollock). I think they switch the buildings every summer though. Pollock and South are literally right next to each other.

What is the best dorm for studying (not unbearably rowdy) and for meeting friends? I am also looking for a relatively cheap dorm. I don’t need the huge suite. An economic dorm room is fine. What do you think?

this may be ridiculous, but when it comes to showering i want my privacy. is it true north dorms are the only ones with private bathrooms? i do want a social life though

I have a few questions, how easy is it for freshman to find parties to go to and where are they usually held?

For sporting events, will freshmen get any good tickets for football/ basketball games?

If you want to have a few friends stay up for a weekend, where will they have to stay?

I’m a current student who’s a sophomore.

The dorms I stayed in freshmen year ( Pollock and East) had individual shower stalls. You can lock the door and everything, that’s the most privacy you can have in the showers.

During the first few weeks before Formal Rush begins for Fraternities/Sororities it’s pretty easy to get into parties because it’s Silly Week and every Fraternity is looking for new recruits; afterward you need to be accompanied by girls (at least a 5:1 ratio). I don’t know much about apartment parties. I don’t go to them because they are crowded and the apartment rooms themselves are small. Basically everyone takes the White Loop downtown to the Fraternities at night for the parties. If you want more info about Fraternities or Greek life you can ask me, I went through rush last year and currently in a well known Fraternity on campus.

For football season tickets freshmen pick last after the seniors/juniors/sophomores. There isn’t much of a demand for basketball tickets (although they are doing pretty good this year).

For people visiting, if your roommate doesn’t mind it there is enough space in the dorm room for people to camp out. If you live in a suite I believe there is a common area that’s more than enough space.

Shogunzek, you said you switched majors to IST. How is it?
