summer university honors program

do you guys already know which dorm you’re going to be living in? if you do…how were you notified? >.<

and i have a question about the “Summer Bridge Program”. Is it just so you could get used to the class and get some units (if passed)? Or can you actually skip the class once school starts and advance? i hope that made sense. thank you.

we get notifed on 9/1

If you pass the class in s Bridge thaen your in eng 001A in fall. I was going to go its expensive I m just going to a JC to take 101 and be in eng 001B All need is cash for textbooks:(

will there be chem 1a and math 9a available the winter quarter?

there should be, for all of the people who have to take chem 1w fall quarter or something

yeah pretty sure not alot of ppl passed the math placement test either

yea, i got sent to Math 5 <_<. I’m an engineer too, now i’m behind a quarter, which sucks.

same here with english still sticking the middle finger at the grader n

just take a class during summer and you’ll be caught up

Hello all I just got back from 7/10-11 orientation, and I am a little bit flustered and angry right now. The people in charge told me that I only have a 3 out of 10 chance of getting the classes I want if I did NOT join one of their learning communities (which I didn’t want to, they seem useless). So I decided that my classes were worth more than any false pretenses I had about this learning community, so I JOINED. Well it turns out not only could I get all of the classes I wanted if I didn’t join the community, I could get them at better times! The learning community jerkoff put me at classes at 8 AM!!!

I am a little bit worried that 3 classes simply isn’t enough for the fall, being a full time student. I am also looking to join a fraternity, and have some free time to meet new people and enjoy college. I wanted to take 4 classes, but the learning community requires you to take a pointless seminar which takes up 2 units, therefore having 4 classes will put me over the 20 unit/quarter limit. DO YOU 2ND YEAR AND 3RD YEAR STUDENTS THINK THIS IS A FINE SCHEDULE FOR A FULL TIME/NON WORKING STUDENT?

Chem 1A (with lab), Econ 2 (Macroeconomics), and Math 9A. The total is 16 units, 2 of those units coming from the freshman advisory seminar.

Ok…I’m really worried about my housing situation right now.
I turned in the first payment for housing on the day of May 10th by money order. As it turns out the money order got sent back from my mom’s bank so I had to pay w/ credit card few weeks later. I didn’t knew that the housing was first come first serve! I thought that freshman had to turn it in on the due date which was May 10th. Omg…I’m freaking out right now!! I really want to live in East Lothian! My second choice is Pentland. I heard Pentland and East Loth are the most popular dorms. Do you think I will still have a chance to get East Lothian though?

Did they send you a letter saying you were waitlisted for housing?

if not, you should be ok…

but not sure

Patrick__Bateman:
Chill out a bit. It’s not the end of the world.

Lots of people have classes early in the morning. I have an 8 a.m. Spanish class 4/5 days of the week for the Fall 2009 quarter. Would I – like most everyone else – prefer a later time? Of course, especially since I commute and don’t have to ability to wake up 10 minutes before class starts and run to it.

I understand the learning communities – I was in a year-long one for CHASS Connect and thought it was excellent. But some people disliked it, so the learning communities are obviously not for everyone. Just tough it out for a quarter at least, which is only 10 weeks as opposed to 15-week long semesters. If ANYTHING, take this chance to learn something new and work closely with your professors so you can at least get a potential recommendation from them in the future. Most professors will teach huge classes and won’t even know you exist. You might even like this class, change your major or meet new people.

I’m a second-year full time student with an internship. I took three classes during fall quarter of my freshman year that amounted up to 13 units. You have 16 units, the equivalent of four classes anyway. The seminar still counts as a class. If you want to go over the 20 unit limit that badly, petition it.

If you wanted some free time to join a fraternity and meet new people, taking three classes the first quarter might be even better for you so you won’t be stressed out. You’re already taking Chemistry, which is an intense class for a lot of people. Fraternities/sororities/student organizations take A LOT of time and dedication.

I think you’ll be fine unless, like Whiteclock said, you get a letter saying you were wait-listed for housing. I don’t think they send people back to the bottom of the list if stuff like that happens. If you get housing anywhere in the dorms or apartments, you’ll be lucky. A friend of mine got wait-listed for any student housing even though him and his roommates applied relatively well before the due date.

Also wanted to add to my previous post – It was my professor from the learning community that wrote me the recommendation letter that landed me my current internship. It was sent to the director (who is the boss above my actual boss) himself because my professor knows the director personally.

Well, I signed up for LC and I only hit 19 units with four classes -

chem = 5 units
sociology = 4
math = 4
english = 4
seminar = 2
total = 19 units

Whiteclock:
No, I didn’t get a letter saying that I was waitlisted for housing. I think if I don’t get my first choice, I might get Pentland. Hopefully I get my first choice though :)

Well, supposedly if you didn’t get waitlisted then you got your first choice

In any case, I remember reading in previous years that they had to turn dorm lounges and classrooms in dorm rooms cuz they ran out of space lol

I really hope I did get my first choice, but I’ll be okay with Pentland too.

waitlisted just means that you are guaranteed housing and you paid your fees in time. It does not necessarily means that you got your first choice. Still hope you get east lo or Pentland ;)
