What are my chances of getting accepted to U.C.R…

I am going to be a senior next year so I am really stressing over colleges because I was lazy during high school and also procrastinated a lot. But recently I have realized that I really want to learn more and so I really want to go to college. Since i wasn’t mature in high school and really didn’t do a whole lot can I still get into a uc.
Here are my stats:

Male Indian, First Generation
GPA: 3.46 UC
SAT: 1740
SAT II : 590 US History, 450 Chemistry
AP’s: US History, Calculus, World History, Biology, Statistics, Microeconomics, Psychology, English
Foreign Language: took 4 years of Spanish
150 hours of community service
took a community college class on electronics
2 years of basketball and 1 year of cross country

Also I failed calculus my Sophomore year so I retook it my Junior year because my dad was really sick my Sophomore year and still is. With my stats what do i have to do to get accepted to UC Riverside. Also I want to go into premed which I think is an impacted major. Thanks a lot.

if you can try to bump up ur SAT II scores this fall. Also it doesnt hurt to take SAT II Biology.
Even if you don’t do that, You’ll have a decent chance of getting accepted.

Lol, I actually think you have a pretty good chance. Remember to take SAT Math II! :0

I think you have a good chance of getting in.I got in with a weighted 3.4 GPA and a 1620 on my SAT and 580/490 on each of my two subject tests.I also failed precalc but I never retook it.Oh yeah and virtually no EC’s or community service.Lucky me =]

Then again, with all the budget cuts I wouldn’t be surprised if UCR gets alittle tougher to get in for Fall 2010.

jenuwin01:He doesn’t have to take Math II, but if he is going to take a math SAT subject test it has to be II, not I.

Math II is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED, especially if he’s a pre-med major. If you want to apply for pre-med, you SHOULD do Math II and a/multiple science subject test(s).

Like for LA if you’re going to apply to their engineering school, it’s HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you take math II and a science subject. Of course, it’s “optional.” Do you have to take it? No. Will it hurt you? Most likely.

UC and csu only take math 2

ergh just take bio its easy I took the bio subject test senior year and I got a 560 and I took bio in 9th grade i killed in US and world I got a 660 and 680 :)

No point in taking math lvl 1.

What if I wanted to attend UCR but it doesn’t have what I want to major in?

Could I just do my GE’s here and then transfer to another school or what?

If it doesn’t have your major, then don’t go to UCR. Isn’t that common sense?

Don’t waste your time. Go to a community college and transfer. If you go to UCR to complete your GEs, 1) it costs WAY more money ($50000 vs $2000), 2) you might not even be able to transfer those classes, 3) it’ll be harder to transfer because priority to transfer is given to CC people, AND your GPA will not be as high as those transferring from a CC… because classes are generally not as intense as UC classes.

their is no point of going to UCR for GEs. For example I am already 8k in the hole for my first year but I love it here so its worth it. If I were to go to a JC i would have gotten about around 9000 in aid and have a surplus in the end of the year

Okay thanks.

He should take a test in whatever subject he feels interest or comfortable with.Who know’s he might change his decision on doing medicine

So how much better would I have to do on my SAT II’s in order to have an exceedingly high chance of being accepted. Thanks

Improve your SAT to 1800, your GPA to 3.5, and both your subject tests to 600.Even with your current stats, I think you’ll get in.

Sawanni, i’m pretty sure with those stats you are guaranteed admissions at UCR.

If you have 3.0+ gpa then you are guaranteed admissions at a UC, whether it be Merced or Riverside.

Your SAT is actually not bad, I know people who got into UCR with WAAAAAAY worse SAT.

dont really strees to much i had a 3.3 and a 1260 sat and 21 act but I came with ap credit. UCR isnt super strict as for admission just dont f up senior year they only premit one f or d in 12 grade

Seriously, almost anyone with 3.0+ with the basic requirements get in. :|

$50000 vs $2000
2k might be for the classes but the tuition of ucr includes housing and living expenses. something your parents have to pay for if you stayed in the house ;P

Is the housing still co-ed? I wanna triple dorm with 2 of my childhood friends (one’s a guy) and I want to know if its tough to get a triple dorm/co-ed dorm.

also, chance me?
-Weighted GPA is 3.5 (should be a 3.6)
-SATI is 1600, SATII BioE is 600, SATII English is 490 (hahahaha ■■■)
-150+ volunteer hours
-school newspaper editor/columnist
-ran a very successful webzine from 2004-2008 (i guess it says something if i started when i was only 13)

I know automatic admissions is like 3.5 GPA with a 1600SAT, so do I have a good chance?
