does anyone know when you buy stuff online from the ucr bookstore if when you pay, there is an option you can click on to pick it up at school?

wait till schools starts you might not need all the books

No idea…I don’t just carry these random facts around, haha. Google search?

i could tell you that finaid (grants + loans) covered everything for me.

it really depends on your living situation. your EFC is usually a good indicator.

This is a very helpful thread. Thanks all.
So, I have a few questions.
How is the non-traditional student population at UCR? By that I mean are there many over 30 students? Are there any programs/organizations to help older students there? I know UCD and some of the other UC’s have re-entry programs that provide assistance to older students, but haven’t been able to find anything on UCR website that they offer anything of that nature.
Does anyone know anything about the Plant Biology major? Is it highly regarded? How are the professors?
Also, I’m curious about parking there for those who do not plan on living on campus. Are there plenty of lots, and are they close to the classes?
Thanks.

about non-traditional students… are you talking about transfer students or thirty year old students or something? I’m sure there are both. I talk to a 22 year old junior, so don’t worry. they have a tutoring center that you can go to for assistance. if you’re worried about meeting people, join a club!

I don’t know about Plant Bio major… I know that the insect major is really good at UCR… and there are a lot of bio, psy bio, etc. major students… so I’m going to assume it’s good.

Yeah… there’s parking all around. I don’t know how easy it is to find parking though cause I live on campus. You’re going to have to walk at least 5 minutes probably to get to class.

KTbird1:
Yes, there are plenty of students who are around or over 30 years old. Most of them are probably graduate students though. However, there are a couple undergrads that I have talked to who are about 30 years old or re-entering college. I don’t know if there are any programs for re-entry students, sorry. :/

I’m not really sure about the Plant Biology major, but like jenuwin01 said, entomology is pretty good here. And I’m sure that all our citrus research is a strength that factors in somehow. :]

Parking for undergrads seems to have gotten worse this year. If you’re an undergrad commuter, you can only get the Gold permit which allows you to park in Lots 26 and 30. I have never parked in Lot 30 personally, just because Lot 26 (by the baseball fields) just always seemed closed to where I needed to be for my first class. But I hear Lot 30 is a pain to park in this year; it seems like more people are commuting. Lot 26 seems a lot fuller than last year too. Before I was able to get a parking space on the part of Lot 26 that extends in from Canyon Crest, but even that gets crowded and parking fills over into the spaces right next to the main baseball field. Point: Come early to get a space, and if you leave campus for lunch/whatever and have to come back later in the day, you probably won’t get a good space.

i was wondering… is it wise to take four classes during the winter quarter? I currently have three for the fall and was thinking about taking four for the next quarter but I heard it’s shorter so I’m not sure :T

karmy:

All quarters – fall, winter and spring – are the same length. They’re all ten weeks. Fall quarter is only “longer” because of the extra two days of zero week (zero week, as it shouldn’t really count). If you’re bringing in holidays, it shouldn’t matter that much either.

Go ahead and take four classes. I took three classes my first quarter (last fall) and I found myself with a lot of free time on my hands (I didn’t have any jobs/internships/whatever then). Four classes (about 16 units) is the average load.

Is it safe to leave my car along Watkins Drive overnight?Possibly for a few days…

Can you leave a description of it?

I’ll come along and check on it…

and bring some wires…
and some screwdrivers…

and some hotwiring equipment, actually

jk lol

honestly though, I’m not sure, although there haven’t been any recent carjackings except for one (which was more like theft at knife-point)

I wouldn’t be too worried though

hey OP, I saw your stats and they seemed at least decent. What other UCs did you apply to/ get in to/ get rejected to?

Well, I only applied at LA, Berkeley, and SB as far as UC’s. Was denied at all of those. I was accepted to every Cal State except SLO.

I’m sure I would have been accepted to UCSC or another mid-tier UC besides SB because my scores were pretty much at their averages. I wanted to stay near home so I could keep my band going though, so I wouldn’t have went to any other UC’s anyways at the time. Now I’ve decided I’d like to move away from home and live more independently, despite my band, so I’m applying as a transfer.

Anyone in a fraternity here at Riverside? I want to join one and was wondering when they’ll rush next.

if you’re talking about greek frats, i think they only rush in the fall?

some asian greeks have winter rush in january.

So if I submit my SIR earlier, does it mean that I get to register for classes earlier?

nope. if you want to register for classes early, you have to pick an early orientation date. Orientation is during the summer for two days… and it costs like $250? You could get it waived if your EFC is low enough.

Okay, thanks jenuwin01!

haha i know this sounds silly but… how are the guys at UCR?
i keep getting the image from friends who currently go there that most of them are super party animals and so I was wondering if this is true… :/

I don’t really like to party. haha.
