Ask a current UCR freshman anything!

lol, there are people of all sorts. just find the right crowd. you’re not aloneee.

jenuwin01, would you know what UCR considers an EFC as “low”?

jenuwin01, is it hard to get into the Faststart program during the summer? and is it also hard to get into the UCR Honors Program?

Thanks in advance for the reply!

petiza; I have no idea what low is ):

paulinea; I don’t know anything about faststart or honors… I’m just tryna do well as a regular studenttt. (:

@petiza, by EFC you mean the Expected Family Contribution on the FAFSA?
the lowest would be 0 i believe… well I got $0 so i think it means i might not even have to pay for college. LOL. well i don’t know … just guesses.

yeah, lowest is $0… but there’s a “low” range… just dunno what it is.

$0 doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay for college. It just means your parents don’t have to pay anything… you, on the hand, might have to take out loans to pay for it.

I know this is going to sound like a stupi dquestion. i want to be a dentist and I know I have to take the pre med stuff but do I have to be a bio major or any science major. Can I take a psychology class and a science class.

@Ether91, You do not have to major in a Science to get into a Dentistry School. Just make sure you meet the prerequisites of the school you want to apply to. good luck!

i have heard that UCR are is not really a safe place (comments of riverside residents) and i want to major in business administration, i wonder if i should go to UCR or a cal state

do you know anyone who appealed to UCR and got in?

"correct me if i’m wrong. Because of the new medical school opening in 2012 or so, the UCR-UCLA Haider is going to be terminated this year or so? "

i talked to some of the people who are in the program at highlander day and they said for the incoming freshman this year, they believe it will be the last year they will open up the joint program between ucr and ucla. the next year’s freshman will possibly be able to attend ucr’s own med school. they’re not sure though.

I wanted to know if I can still get Pentland hills as my freshman year dorm, even if I turn in my residence form today.
I have heard that Pentland hills is the hardest dorm to get as a freshman.

thanks

what advice would you give someone who is planning to commute to UCR from Los Angeles

^ that’s gonna suck. I had to drive to Riverside from LA and its a pretty long drive to do frequently.
Just buy one of those fastpass freeway things (only comes in handy if you drive in traffic hours) that the freeway has near Riverside. My mom was going to move over there and would’ve had to drive to LA everyday and she was considering getting one of those freeway things. I also think they have a amtrack system too if you want to use that.

I would not even try commuting from LA. That sounds like suicide

Got any good tips for a Freshman when registering for classes?

Hi, I’m currently a transfer student planning to go to UCR. I accepted my financial aid awards online before the deadline, which is tomorrow, May 1st. However, I cannot sign in to the database for some reason. Whenever I try to enter my name, birthdate, UCR Student ID, social security number, anything…it says my information is not in their database. Does it take time for information to process in the database? Should I call the Financial Aids office?

is it easy to change majors? i applied as poli sci but I don’t want to do it anymore

Is GROWL down? Can’t submit SIR or anything else.

growl is usually down during this time of the hour.
