A.) Majority of the student population drinks casually. But, it is also easy to find people who don’t drink.

B.) I’d say about 70%

C.) Manzanita is probably has the least drinking going on. . .but then again, I have friends who drink there too. (One found a full handle in a Manzanita kitchen fridge. . . LOL). And, depending on which house/floor you get, you will be perfectly fine social wise, OR you will have THE WORST DORM in terms of socializing. (One of my friends is in Manzanita. . .she knows NOBODY on her floor because they are upperclassmen and hardly come out at all.)

Or the Asian American floor in San Nic. . .I’ve seen them work chem problems on a Saturday night, at 11 pm, while IV was raging. lol

FT–depending on who your roommate is, it can be really easy to be part of pre-gaming, or really easy to be isolated (because of the bathrooms and an on-hall dining commons.)

D.) NOT AT ALL.

enough said.

Sum it up . . . IV sucks these days. Party scene is overblown. It is very easy to avoid if if you want. (Unless you’re in FT. . .lol)

I have a question about isla vista. Is that where are the dorms are at? Or just the party part of the dorms? How many dorm buildings are there? And can you rank them on how the partying goes? (Come to think of it, all UC must party, and heck, i wanna do it, i wanna meet some friends there)

No, none of the dorms are in IV, only houses and apartments are there. All dorms except Santa Catalina are on campus. I’m not sure about the order of the dorms party wise, but Santa Catalina probably has the most going on, while Manzanita has the least. Everyone goes to IV to party though.

asking on behalf of a friend here, she’s transferring from sbcc and would like to live in the manzanita village, do you think that is possible? when do you think is the best (and earliest) time to apply for housing there? also, she likes tropicana but shes worried there’ll be a lot a partying there. do you think there is?

Yes transfers can live in Manzanita. Transfers can either be put in Manzanita or San Rafael (both dorms), or san clemente, santa ynez, el dorado, or westgate (all apartments), or you can find your own place. I don’t know about the parties in tropicana, but I wouldn’t live there because I’m pretty sure in costs as much as the dorms, and you’re not even on campus. Trop seems like a rip off to me.

I’m a transfer in Manzanita right now and kind of wished I lived in Santa Ynez because it’s pretty nice and a lot cheaper. Manzanita is cool because it’s quiet and on campus, but for me, it’s not social enough and not worth the extra money.

Im currently living in Venezuela and I am Brazilian, so, I am an international student…I heard the UCs are accepting more foreigners this year, so, I am really hopeful I can make it…Any opinions?

PS: Thank you for taking your time reading this…

Hi! I was wondering if anyone is in CCS at UCSB? It sounds like a great program and I’m applying as a biochem major and I really love UCSB. I have a 4.5 gpa, 2100 and have been a finalist at the Intel international science fair and a bunch of other research related competitions. Do you think I’ll get in and is it worth it over UCLA? thankss :)

Are you familiar with the Tropicana housing in I.V.? If so, what is the closest UCSB DORM to that development? Manzanita Village? I dunno. Thanks :)

You get your acceptance regardless of your major choice within the College of Letters and Science. However, admissions to the College of Engineering and College of Creative Studies are more selective.

it’s true there’s not a hospital on campus, but there is the Goleta Valley College Hospital and I personally volunteer at St. John’s hospital ( it’s a little bit of a drive though as it’s not actually in Santa Barbara but a city nearby). If you have a car, you might be able to pull it off.

I have a 3.6 UC gpa, however, my test scores are low. My highest SAt is 1670. I am in AP classes, have some extra cirricular but I experienced a close loss which i wrote about in my personal statement.
UCI sent me a “supplemental freshman questionairre” where they asked me to describe the loss I experienced and asked for my first sem grades (which was a 4.0 by UC gpa).
What is my chance for UCI and UCSB? Thank you so much.

I can’t say with 100% certainty that you got in, but there is an extremely high probability. Not only that, but this means that you have most likely been accepted into the honors program or have been selected as a Regents Scholar. The honors program here is great. You get priority registration, so your pass time each quarter (with the exception of your first quarter) is about two weeks before everybody else. Last quarter, my pass time was a couple days before my RA’s who is a senior bio major! You also get graduate student privileges in the library, special guidance counselors, and the opportunity to live on the scholars floor in the residence halls. I’m in the College of Letters and Science honors program, but I think the engineering honors program is almost identical. Congrats! If you have any other questions, let me know :)

Trying to figure out what’s inside an admissions officer’s head is kind of impossible. Especially with a situation like yours, it’s really hard to guess what their decision will be. Best of luck though! Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
