Hi im from New Zealand and am looking to go to UCSB through the education abroad program. I was wondering around how many international students get accepted each year?

Actually the cost of student health insurance from UCSB has gone from 459 dollars a quarter to 805.

I live in Washington and the weather is awful half of the year, I also enjoy surfing so for entertainment purposes… How is uc Santa Barbara for the following

-parties/social life

-what are the winters like?

-are there nice beaches with surf near the campus?

-are the classes engaging?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently a CC student. I am planning to transfer in UCSB next year by TAG. I heard that UCSB has the closest, if not the second, best chemical engineering program next to Cal. This is one of the reasons I put UCSB as one of my option schools. To be honest, I am still completely torn between UC Davis, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara. For starters, I have not been in any of these UC’s.

I kind of like UCD because it is the closest UC I can attend. However, I heard the classes are so compact because most of the students who didn’t get into Cal and UCLA end up enrolling in Davis. In addition, chemical engineering is not one of their specialty. I don’t know about the surrounding though because just like I mentioned I have not visited any UC yet.

I also kind of like UCSD because the population isn’t that compact. Less competition when it comes to class enrollment. However, it is the farthest of all the UC from my place. Chemical engineering isn’t one of their specialty as well. Also don’t know about the surrounding. But I heard its kind of the same with UCSB.

As for UCSB, it is in the middle, so it is not that close yet not that far. In case I choose this school, I want to know something at least. First, I now that UCSB has a bad reputation for being “party school” which is I know a completely bias opinion (I heard Davis has lots of parties as well). I don’t care about parties and girls (flirting an such). I am a serious student. I would like to avoid them as much as possible. For those who are attending and have attended UCSB, which is the best place to stay - with less to no parties? Being pressured by my peers is not a big problem (I don’t care about their thing). My big worry is the noise. I can be with completely serious students but if the surrounding is bad (loud, with party people and such) there wont be any difference. Of course, the safeness of the area is a big important factor also in addition with the distance from the campus (more specific, the engineering department).

I am not a traditional American student. I am not as bright as other student who have attended HS here in US. I am a immigrant with a lot of academic disadvantages. For me, I just want to study, do research, know my academic peers and mentors and appreciate UCSB just like a normal real college student does. I also like to jog once in a while if time permits.

There is a high chance that I will choose USCB from other UC’s I mentioned. However, I don’t know anything about it. Please give (share) me some info, advice and academic/social experiences so that I can make optional plans in case I attend UCSB. I am so excited!!! Thanks everyone.

I’m a senior in high school deciding between ucsb and reed college. I am in a rock band and it is second only to academics as far as my priorities go. My question is: how easy is it to start a band at ucsb? And is there a place for bands to practice on campus?
