Ask a Milton Academy Junior!

Hi CC,
With prep school admissions season beginning soon, I thought it might be useful to give some insight to any of those interested in Milton Academy. Feel free to ask any questions you may have :)

HI! Just wanted to ask, how is Milton like? Like the academics, sports, school and teachers there etc. Is it comparable to schools like Andover, Cate? Thanks!

I’m an incoming Class IV day student and I could not be more thrilled! I have a few questions:
• What should I bring to the programming day (September 3)? A backpack? A notepad and a pencil?
• When will I receive my schedule? It hasn’t been posted on myMilton yet.
• Which clubs and sports are you involved in?
• When should I bring my summer reading? Friday? Or after that?
Thanks in advance!

Hi @synchro155 thanks for the response! In most aspects of prep school life Milton and Andover are very similar especially since they are both part of the ISL (independent school league). While I can’t speak from experience about Andover or other schools, I can tell you that academically and athletically Milton is very rigorous. However the school environment is pretty relaxed and everyone has a unique personality. The teachers are not only mentors but also cheerleaders. They want you to succeed in every way possible. Milton is an amazing school :)

@NerdIsTheWord So happy to have you!!! This upcoming week will be jam packed with information but here are a few things to know: For programming day you won’t need much! Bring a notepad and pen in a small bag if you can so you can write down any info you want but don’t worry about bringing all your books! Essentially you’ll just meet some classmates and get your books. Schedules come out on Labor Day. You can also pick up a hard copy of your schedule on September 3rd. Bring your summer reading books on Friday (the first day of classes). You may not end up talking about them on the first day but you should be prepared! As for me, I’m a three sport varsity athlete (xc, swimming & diving, and lacrosse). I also participate in many clubs! Freshman year is all about figuring out what you’re interested in so try lots of clubs and sports!

Thank you so much! Would you mind describing your relationship with your advisor? (How often do you meet? Is he one of you teachers? Etc.)

Hello MiltonAcad15, I’m not sure whether you’re a boarding or day student, but how are campus and student life like on weekends or evenings? I’m asking this because I saw Milton have 50:50 boarding:commuting student ratio. With limited information, I kind of feel it’d be a negative for boarding students in general, but would rather like to hear from a student.

Thanks.

Hi, I had a few questions about Milton academy I was wondering if anyone could answer.
Do you get grades that you deserve or do you ever get a lower grade than you work for?
What is the stress level like?
Is it easy to get help from teacher?
How well do you know the teachers?
Do kids hang around after school or do most people leave at the end of the school day?
How much homework on average is there?
