to all freshmen out there, Ihum is a joke. Don’t even worry about Ihum. It’s one of those classes for you to get used to college courses.

Is it true that pretty much everyone gets a B+? Which one did you take?

Olive_Tree: If you request a change of section only, your lecture time will not change. And yes, section changes are generally easier to do than lecture changes. If you have a conflict with a class you plan to take, that’s considered a perfectly legitimate reason for changing the time.

pretty much everyone gets a B without trying. Actually Stanford profs in generaldon’t fail students cuz of grade inflation unless you are reallly really not up to par.

I took the sex class (don’t know if they still have it) and vision of mortality ( don’t know if they change the title or not)

Are tests/quizzes taken during lecture or discussion? (in general, not directed at ihum)

soo I have two questions, one isn’t an academic question. First, does every single class pretty much include both lectures and sections?
Secondly, I know NSo for freshman is supposed to be dry for alcohol and frats are off-limit, but does any drinking/partying go on? Thanks

There are parties and drinking but not for freshmen. Sorry buddy. I knew a guy who got kicked out of housing for drinking during NSO. He had to stay home a year since all frosh are required to live on campus. Not every class has sections. Most classes for freshmen have sections. like intro classes.

bump my question: Are tests/quizzes taken during lecture or discussion? (in general, not directed at ihum)

Also, based on experience, does one tend to do better on tests/quizzes in the morning or afternoon? Trying to decide whether I should take more morning classes or afternoon :X

most tests are during lecture. sections are usually optional except for Ihum. Introductory classes: Math, Chem, Physics sometimes have tests at night. If you know your material then I don’t think it matters what time your test is.

^I second asian75’s last point. You’ll definitely end up taking both really early exams and really late ones especially during finals. In general all that matters is whether or not you know your $hit. that said the combination of one really late final (I’m talking 7:30-10:30) and a really early one the next day (8:30-11:30) really sucks but it’s happened to me several times before…

And yeah people rarely fail classes. Usually classes are curved at ~B+ give or take the class and prof. Most of the time a fair number get some sort of A and roughly equal amount Bs and then a handful Cs and (especially if its a large class) a couple of D’s or F’s.

What does it mean when a class has a prerequisite of 1 or junior standing? Can freshmen participate in the class?

it means freshmen can’t take it. YOu can try to audit and see if there is space

what do you think about a schedule of ihum, pwr, cs106, and two athletic classes?
id feel slightly slacker-ish with just three real classes, and i realllly want to add intro to sociology. but would ihum/pwr/cs/intro class be too heavy for first quarter frosh year? thatd be 18 units…
