@aspiringdvm: Hi, I entered UC Davis not as a freshman, but as a transfer student who had already completed the Gen Chem requirements at a CC. However, I did have to complete the Bio series (I only took the equivalent of BIS 2A at CC), but I had no trouble getting into the BIS 2B course during transfer registration. And since transfer registration is before freshmen registration (transfer registration is in June) and I attended the very first transfer student orientation date, I had no trouble getting the classes I needed.
How much does taking workload chemistry and math set me back if I am a biological sciences major? I’m really struggling with trig and the pdf packet on the website and I’ve just rarely looked through chem.
hi, can anyone recommed which classes i should take my first quarter if i am currently undeclared
@123unquiely123: Undeclared in which college?
@gumbymom in the college of ag and enviormental sciences
@123uniquiely123: Have you attended Freshman orientation yet? They will give advise on the classes you should be taking your first quarter. The College of Ag and Env Sci also offers a Career Discovery Group program that allows you to explore various careers for Ag and Env Sciences which has 2 required seminars (Fall and Spring) which would be worth looking into.
Your first 2 years will include GE’s and pre-req for major upper division classes, so I would consider taking an English Lit Class ENL 3 or maybe a Classics class such as CLA 10 Greek/Roman and Greek Mythology, MAT16A Short calculus and possibly BIS 2A-Biology or CHE 2A- General Chem plus a Freshman seminar or the Career Discovery program seminar mentioned above. This will help get you started on some major prep/pre-req’s and GE’s and keep you around 13-15 units the first quarter. Do you have an idea of a possible major in the College?
@Gumbymom okay so I’m planning on taking ENL3 and a math I’m not sure which considering I don’t know what major I’m going to pick but I don’t think I’ll need Math 21A. But I’m not going to take Chem at the same time as math at least for the first quarter so I have math and English right now. Does the career discovery program have any units? And I’m completely undecided

There is a total of 5 units over 3 quarters.
@Gumbymom thank u!!!
What are some fun art classes?
@123uniquely123: For credit or for just fun? UCD has a Craft center that offers woodworking, welding, ceramics, painting etc… for a nominal fee but not for credit. Here is their link: http://cru.ucdavis.edu/content/57-craft-center.htm
Not sure about for credit classes.
What kind of bike should i get? Road bike?
@MIN16QAKJ; that’s the ideal kind of bike, but if you’re on a budget, anything but a cruiser will do. i personally have a cheap hybrid and it’s worked pretty well for me. fixies are really popular, as well.
if you get a somewhat expensive road bike though, be sure to to buy a really good u-lock because bike theft is unfortunately a real thing at davis.
