Wellesly Music

My D wants to major in music and continue working on cello performance while attending Wellesley. Even thought they do not have a performance major, she wants a strong LAC education and possibly continue on to a conservatory for perfromance after graduation. Can anyone comment on the music program at Wellesley, as well as the ensembles? Any information would be helpful. Thanks

I do not have the answer to your question, but, if your daughter is looking for strong LAC and music, be sure to look at Oberlin and Lawrence.

@mtpaper: yes, thanks. D auditioned for both in Feb. Have not heard back from either of those as yet. Oberlin is a reach. D did a regional audition in NY for Lawrence. As we are from the east coast, we have not yet visited Lawrence Campus, but definitely will if they give her a thumbs up. She is one who is a high honors student and is torn between music and academics. Lawrence seems to have a hgih acceptance rate for academics so we are not sure if the academics are challenging enough (?)

oh - sorry - I read too quickly and didn’t realize your D was already an accepted student at Wellesley. I thought you were just starting the process of looking for schools.

I agree, finding the school that is right academically, musically and financially can be a challenge.

mtpaper-thanks for your comments. Like so many, many parents/students on these music threads, we tried to cover all bases by applying to a few conservatories, strong LACs and a couple of larger universities with strong music programs. Guess when acceptances are in she will see what feels like the best fit academically/musically/financially…Wellesly is on D’s short list so far.

Hi celloliz - I just sent you a PM. We went through a similar search a few years ago.
