Nicole, It’s so nice to see your friendly face now!!

@tpcrd66 Thank you!! I saw all your photos popping up and I decided I needed to switch mine to something more exciting than the CC logo.

We are coming in for accepted student day on 4/12. Is there anything we need to know? We haven’t received any info. on it. We signed up for the reception Friday night, but may not make it until after 6pm. Should we let someone know that we may be late?

S was accepted to the game design program. he got the letter 2 weeks ago. I understand any financial aid decisions follow shortly after the decision letter. If we’ve received nothing to date, is it safe to assume that no merit/aid is being offered? Just trying to make our final decision.

@jenifish I’m so sorry I only just saw your message, I was traveling all of last week and didn’t get a chance to check this site. I hope you made it to the event and had a great day! Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. @jrossi266, I would reach out to finaid@champlain.edu. It’s possible that they may have not received your FAFSA. Just check it with them and they can let you know what your student might qualify for.

Hi Nicole, my son received an invitation to apply through the Dean’s select application. Needless to say now that he has started working on the common app he is happy at the prospect of at least one abbreviated application. I like the fee waiver. Are there any other advantages (or disadvantages) to applying via this link? Thanks!

HI @Snowdog ! Along with the advantages that you already mentioned, students who are applying through the Dean’s Select application will have slightly earlier consideration for financial aid. If we do what we did last year, the decisions will also go into the mail slightly earlier than the Common Application decisions - not drastically earlier, however. The application generally tells us that the student is very interested in Champlain, which we will of course note when reviewing them for admission.

I hope that helps! Sorry I’m so delayed in getting back to you on your question - travel distracted me from checking in on here as frequently lately!

Many thanks Nicole :)

Hi Nicole. My son visited campus last fall as a Junior and has loved the school since then. He has already sent in his ACT score and is ready to submit his application through the common app (he should hit the submit button this week). But he just received today an invitation to apply through Dean’s Select Application. I noticed above you mention to Snowdog that “the application generally tells us that the student is very interested in Champlain, which we will of course note when reviewing them for admission.” Should he switch over even though he’s already completed the common app since scholarship and/or financial aid will be important for him? Will his application fee be waived through the common app? Thanks.

Hi @RPNmom ! Sorry for my delay again! I’m so pleased to hear how much your son loves our school! It sounds like he’s done a lot to show his excitement for our institution and his interest in attending here. I wouldn’t have him worry about switching over to the Dean’s Select application, especially since he’s already completed the Common App. His application fee will still be waived either way, and he’s already expressed his interest in the same way that using that application could have.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

@Niclole Thanks! Application was submitted this weekend! He applied Regular Decision through Common App since we weren’t sure of finances yet. Guess those are put aside until later in the year? I think the waiting will be the hardest part…

@RPNmom That’s great that he’s already so on top of his application! That will be a lot of stress off of his shoulders over the next few months. Yes, you are correct that we don’t usually get a chance to review the Regular Decision applications until early next year, typically, as we need to prioritize Early Decision 1 and 2 first. However, it’s still great that he got it completed so early, as he’ll be reviewed earlier and his decision should hopefully go out in the first wave of Regular Decision letters - that’s better than us needing to chase him down for missing materials later in the year! I know the waiting is tough, but this year will certainly fly by quickly.

My son applied ED and the website says notification is Dec. 15th. Do you mail letters on the 15th? When should be expect to have an answer?

@Charjt Hi! Sorry for the confusion - I’ve actually asked our web person to fix the wording on that a bit. Our decisions go out into the mail ON or slightly before the 15th, so they’re usually received in the days following the 15th. We put them all in the mail on Friday and through the weekend, so students should hopefully start receiving their decisions over the next few days! If your son hasn’t received his decision letter by Friday, please reach out to us and let us know!

Hi @Charjt , I just got updated information and quickly wanted to correct myself - our letters primarily went out Monday. My apologies for the mistake - I had confused the date of when the letters were being packaged and when they were going into the mail! Hopefully your son should hear very soon!

Hi Nicole.
Can you confirm are you expecting Early Decision 2 decisions to go out February 15 with financial aid information to follow thereafter?
Thanks!
Hi @mingles ! Yes, that is our plan, although we’re hoping to get them out a little sooner if we can help it! They will definitely go in the mail by Feb. 15th at the absolute latest no matter what - the only exception to that would be if a student’s missing any information for their file at that time. However, if that were the case, your student would have most likely heard from us about that by now! The financial aid information will either be in the decision packet or, as you said, following shortly thereafter.
Please let me know if you have any other questions I can help with!
Hi @Nicole checking back in now that ED notifications are out. Any idea when the first wave of RD will go out? We’re all excited and can’t wait to hear!
Hello Nicole, I applied EDII to the Game Design program for Fall of 2015. I just got my decision today - I was accepted! Unfortunately, the financial aid package offered is far beyond anything my family could afford. I understand that financial aid isn’t exactly your domain, but could you provide any insight as to how I might go about receiving additional aid from Champlain, and a general guess as to my chances of receiving such a drastic increase in aid? If not, could you direct me to someone who could help me with this matter?
It seems to me that once I am accepted Early Decision, either the school offers me a package which my family can afford, and I enroll, or the school offers an unaffordable package, and I am unfortunately forced to decline. Given that I submitted a FAFSA, which includes an estimated parental contribution, and that Champlain has access to this information, I do not understand why they would offer something which is quite clearly, in my opinion, out of reach, financially.
Of course I am very grateful for the acceptance and the money which has been offered, I am just afraid I won’t be able to attend my dream school because of financial problems, so I’m trying to do everything I can to better understand the situation.
@Whit14, as a parent I recommend you call the financial aid office. Admissions officers are not going to be able to make guesses about your need-based aid package. In general, if you read the forums here on CC, you know that “FAFSA-only” colleges do not guarantee to meet need. Even colleges that do pledge to meet demonstrated need calculate that figure using the CSS Profile and their own institutional methodologies. In most cases, that means the family contribution will be well above the FAFSA EFC. For example, one of my kids attends a selective university known for good need-based aid – and yet our family contribution the past 3 years has been double our FAFSA EFC.
Congratulations on your acceptance and good luck. Speak with the financial aid office directly.
