Thanks! Did not know that and good info to know, we will talk to the academic advisors about that next week!

Hi, I have a question. I’m out of state and I’m just wondering if there are a lot of out of state people at OSU and if they interact a lot with people in-state. I don’t know how to phrase it better, but it’s just that I don’t want to feel left out if I go to OSU and most people there know each other already cause they came from similar high schools.

Great question—while there are definitely more people from in-state, there are still plenty from out of state. However, people are spread out all over from the state of Ohio. There are people from Columbus, sure, but lots from Northeast/Southern/other parts of Ohio, so it really doesn’t matter where you are from.

I think two of my friends are from high school (I’m not from Columbus) but the rest are not…don’t worry, lots of people here!

Well, assuming I get accepted, I will be transferring as a Junior, potentially. Do most transfer students adjust rather easily, if you have an idea at least. OSU is much much much larger than my current school.

Also, what would you say the best dorms on South are?

Oh, and is not being able to get into classes a huge problem or lots of people? Never had to worry about that here (Honors early scheduling).

Do you know anything about the Stadium Program? I was offered it as a part of my financial aid package but I don’t really know much about it.

My roommate transferred from the University of Akron and he had no trouble adjusting at all–even though campus is big, it’s still segmented between campus (North/South/West), Dorms, and majors…so although there are 50,000 people here, you will still make your own community.

The ‘best’ is definitely an opinion…I’m not sure which are open next year because of construction, but I know that the Freshman 5 (Siebert, Park, Steeb, Smith, and Stradley) are all basically the same just slightly different location wise. Some will be closer to the union/high street, some closer to campus dining/classes.

I never had the problem getting into classes w/ honors scheduling, but you shouldn’t have an issue since you are a junior and class rank (specifically hours) is a major factor on when you get to schedule.

I am not sure about the Stadium Scholarship Program, but maybe this link will help:

What are the best dorms for freshman, preferably either a single or two person dorm in the North housing? Thanks!

On North Campus, I lived in Drackett Tower as a Sophomore/Junior and it was great AS A SUPER DOUBLE. I’m not sure if that’s an option still, because I think they converted a lot to quads and they would be highly uncomfortable as quads. I would make your #1 priority getting a super double, regardless of building or location.

But Drackett was great because it’s super close to Business/Engineering classes and is the absolute closest you can be to North Campus dining.

Can you briefly talk about nightlife and weekends at OSU? Are parties dependent on greek life? Do you need to be a part of greek life to party at OSU? Thank you in advance

I spoke with a student earlier today, and was surprised when he said the North housing would probably be closer to most freshman classes, followed by West and then South.

South is closer to the town life. Does that sound right? Just from looking at the maps, I thought South would be closer.

Thanks

I’m a prospective business major so I was looking at the Jones Tower. How are those dorms?

Just curious what made you switch from Computer Science to Business?

You definitely don’t need to be a part of greek like to enjoy the weekends at OSU. I know friends that did it, but I personally did not. South campus is typically seen as more of the party atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean you have to live down there to enjoy it!

North Campus is typically closer to classes (especially business/engineering) because going from South Campus, you have to walk through the oval. The difference is probably less than 5 minutes.

South is closer to The Gateway, where many people enjoy hanging out on the weekends, but Super Doubles on North are typically more roomy…so it depends on your preferences!

In terms of West campus, if you can snag a double in Morrill or Lincoln, there is tons of space! I lived there over the summer when I worked there and it was a great experience! However it is VERY far away from High Street and not exactly close to classes either.

Keep in mind, though, that classes can be anywhere on campus. I’ve had courses on far South, far North, and everywhere in between–and when you schedule, you can keep that in mind so that your classes are closer if that’s important!

I have never lived at Jones Tower, but I believe they are all singles–unless they changed them to doubles for construction, I’m not sure if you can live there as a freshman.

Since you’re in the honors program, is it difficult for transfer students to get into it? I’ve been looking, but am unsure, are there certain classes that someone would have missed that they would need to take (GECs). Because I know at my school that it is much easier to get honors requirements done if you start out as a freshman.

Also, is your economics minor from the economics department outside of the business school?

I don’t personally know of anyone who has transferred and attempted to get into the honors program, but I would contact an academic adviser. For general, University Honors, the requirements are really not that high to graduate with honors…for the Honors Business programs, the honors/upper level courses required are a bit more strict and structured

Ok, will do then if I end up transferring. My application is still in the Evaluation stage. I check 2421412 times a day :(

Have you any experience with double majors/degrees?

do you find the classes at osu very challenging?
I want to go somewhere where I will learn, but also want to be able to maintain a good gpa.
