Hey CC,
I am an imcoming business major at OSU, and was wondering if someone could help me choose the perfect dorm. First of all, ill tell you about me. I love sports but don’t plan on playing competitively, so will most likely be playing intramural. I am very social and love to go places and have parties with anyone who can have some fun. However, I also see my studying to be the most important thing. What I am looking for is the dorm that will offer me the most social activity, giving me a chance to leave my door open, talk to people, and go to parties, while still making sure I can stick to my studies and stay decently close to my classes at Fisher. THANKS!
Which do you value more - social life/having places to go or how close you are to your classes at Fisher? Fisher is on North, so if that means more to you then I would opt for one of the new buildings on North (Scott, Raney, Torres or Bowen). Most of the rooms are 2/rm with a suite on either end, so a decent amount of people. The new cafeteria will be on the first floor of Scott, so that’s always a bonus.
If you want more food options and easier access to parties, then south might be a better fit (although from what I’ve heard, south fills up really fast, so you could get stuck on North anyways at this point). Virtually no singles on South, so you’ll definitely have at least one roommate and will be surrounded by lots of people and things to do.
Keep in mind that you’ll be in essentially the same situation no matter where you go. Despite the stereotype, north campus people don’t spend every waking hour studying and don’t all have sticks up their asses when it comes to partying, and the people on South don’t all rush and get drunk on weekends. Your experience will be what you make of it, and your ability to focus on studying will more likely be threatened by Netflix, not your roommate dragging you to a party at midnight on a Thursday
Just a sidenote, I’ll be a freshman at osu starting this fall. Not a current student yet, butI live very close to OSU and have spent more time than I care to admit on campus hanging out and mingling with students (boyfriend goes to osu). I also did a crazy amount of research before I filled out my housing app…probably more than I needed to. Anywho, good luck. Hope this helped
I go to OSU currently and live on north campus. Fisher is definitely wwaayy closer to the dorms on north (5 or less min. walk from north, probably 10-15 min. from south/west), plus as the last person said the new dorms are likely going to be quite nice. North campus honestly isn’t that antisocial, it really just depends on your roommates/ who lives on your floor/ in your building. My floor in Taylor isn’t antisocial at all. And anyways, south campus is only like a 10 minute walk from north campus so if you want a more social party scene you can just walk there. My last plug for north is that even if you end up living in the older buildings here, the rooms actually aren’t that bad. I was surprised moving in here that its actually not as small as people make it out to be. Plus you get your own bathroom and air conditioning
Hi guys! I am trying to finish my housing contract and am super confused about the 1, 2, 3, 4 person occupancy… Does anyone know if they refer to the number of people in a room? Like if I choose a suite that has 2 rooms with 2 people in each room (so there are 4 people living in the suite), should I choose the 2-person occupancy or the 4-person occupancy when completing my room type preference? Thanks!
