Hello Chicago UChicagoPSAC,

I was wondering what are your AP and Subject Test requirements to gain credit?

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=AP+credits+University+of+Chicago) spt.leonidas. The wonders of the internet…

Also, when do you think I’ll get rejected…I mean, when do you think decisions will be released this year? Later than previous years due to the influx of applications, or do you not have the slightest clue at the moment?

Also, how many applicants were deferred?

Dear U Chicago PSAC

I was just notified that I was a national merit finalist.

Does Chicago offer any awards for this?

Also, by when do I need to send in the form saying that Chicago is my first choice? Is there any advantage to turning it in earlier?

(I’m an EA admit)

Also, http://housing.uchicago.edu/Housing-Admissions%20Booklet%2011.09.pdf (pg. 21)

Grace will prolly be able to give a more extensive explanation about all the advantages to it, but the internet is always pretty darn useful.

You must have answered this many times. After my app submission in mid Dec, I have recd nothing whatsoever from UofC. Do I suppose to receive some form of notification saying that my app is complete with nothing missing and is under review so just wait etc.? When should we expect that? Or, I am Not supposed to hear anything at all until D Day if all materials are received?

Would sometime this month the Uncommon Blog shed some light on what’s going on in general with the app process for the benefits of the applicants? For myself, I’m curious abt the reading process. For example, (1) if both the first read and second read (if there’s a second read) suggest the applicant is not a fit, would that file be closed right away without going to the adcom at all, assuming adcom would not have the time to debate every file? (2) Assuming a file is read as soon as the basic info like essays is in, how would the first reader make a recommendation judgement on an incomplete file, such as the midyear report?

Haha, yep! Sometimes a well-done Google can be faster and as accurate as I am. Checked it out, and those links are about as much as I could say on any of the questions they already responded to… thanks for doing my job for me, guys :)

@uofcapplicant- we will send you notification once we can either confirm your application is complete or know that something is missing. We STILL have things to sort through and scan, so my apologies for the wait, but rest assured you’ll know asap.
And the blog post is a good idea! I contribute to the blog and will consider putting something like that together for this week or next.

What are your opinions on the Committee on Social Thought? Previously (i.e., 20-30 years ago) I heard it was a huge powerhouse, widely known throughout the university for intellectual discussion, etc. Is it still that way today, or has its importance faded with time?

so how many were deferred…

@motion- the number of deferred students has not, to my knowledge, been released yet- but I’ll let you all know here if/when I know.

Just wondering if you have any historical data on the number or percentage of deferred EA applicants who were accepted through RD…

I’m curious as to the impact an alumni interview has on the admissions decision. While I realize that it plays a role into the entire application, I felt like my interview went quite well and am wondering how strongly the interview would influence an admissions decision.

Also, how strongly do take athletic ability into account during the admissions process?

Thank you for your time and honesty.

Alumni interviews are factored in just as on-campus interviews would be- helpful, but by no means required. We really see the alumni interview as a chance for you to have face time with a UChicago alum; if it goes well, great! and if not, no worries. Admissions decisions are not made or broken on the basis of an interview.

Athletic ability is welcomed, and treated like any other skill- musical skill, art talent, creative writing, etc. If you are an athlete and do not intend to contact a varsity sports coach about being on a team here, definitely make sure to let us know you have this skill. If you are interested in varsity sports, getting in touch with a coach is a great idea- but know that we do not offer merit scholarships specifically for athletic ability, and our athletes get in on the basis of their applications and their academic achievement, not the influence of the coaching staff.

@Elanorci claimed having received a likely letter from UofC yesterday under the thread “likely letter,” is this true?

how important is class rank to UChicago?

I’m at a magnet school and I’m at the very top of the 2nd quintile (~21/100). How much does this reduce my desirability? I’ll have taken 12 APs by the time I graduate (and i’ve gotten 4 or 5’s on all of them…)

@disclaimer: I’m not connected with the admissions office but I can tell you that Chicago evaluates their applicants holistically, which means that they will take into account your circumstances/context. If your school is very competitive and rigorous, then your class rank will be viewed in light of this. Furthermore, the rigor of your courseload far outweighs the impact of your class rank or GPA. If you don’t mind a personal anecdote, I got in early action this year with just about the same rank and class size as you. I was just as worried, especially since someone with a higher class rank was applying too.

Do you think it’s too late to submit any updates to my application? If I do submit an update, will it be considered?

@puneur- yes, by now it is too late to update your application.

If i were to get two C’s would my admission get rescinded or be in any danger of being rescinded?
