@walrus: while it is obviously in your best interest to keep your grades up, getting rescinded is reserved for really extreme circumstances- a felony conviction, failing to graduate from high school because of Ds and Fs, lighting the admissions office on fire, etc. Every year students worry about getting rescinded, but be assured that it is only used in very extreme cases. Keep those grades up, definitely, but don’t worry too much.

Hi,

I submitted my Transfer application at the beginning of the month, and I’m wondering what to do next. Even though the application deadline has passed, am I still allowed to occasionally call in and ask questions? Is there anything in particular I can do to show my interest? I’m worried that any attempts I make might come across as poor etiquette.

Thanks for your help!

@Dante- We know you’re interested- you applied! While we definitely welcome updates with new information if you have them, please note that this is a really busy time for our office, so we may not be able to get back to you if you do contact us just to say hello. We will, of course, let you know if anything is missing from your application- but for now I’d just say hang tight until you hear from us!

Do you guys have an idea of when you’ll release decisions?

I’m attending the April program for accepted students, and I was wondering how many students actually spend the night in the dorms as opposed to living in the hotel. Is one option more popular?

@samedifference: no, not yet. You should expect to hear sometime before April 1st.

@overachiever: The vast majority of students elect to overnight on campus for the April Programs; part of the allure of the program is to be able to experience student life on campus, part of which is definitely dorm life. I’d say that the overnight is a really integral part of the experience- you’ll be able to meet current students, talk to them about programs on campus, and more easily attend the variety of activities we have set up for you. While a small percentage of visitors (usually those with very early flights the next day) may elect to stay with parents in a hotel, I’d definitely encourage everyone who can to do an on-campus overnight.

if we want to send the uchicago merit aid folks updates (large-scale updates, not, “oh, i won my school’s poetry contest”) to negotiate , well, merit aid, who would we address that to?

I’m sorry but merit decisions have now already been sent out, and we do not re-distribute merit scholarships if students offered decide not to attend, so at this point there is no action you can take to be considered for a merit scholarship.

^What about UChicago sponsored National Merit Scholarships? Have they all been sent out too?

The Chicago-sponsored National Merit scholarships come from National Merit, and they come later.

When should a hopeful applicant expect a notification about U Chicago merit money?

Merit scholarship notifications should be included with admissions materials for students admitted RD. We do not send any sort of notification to students who did not receive merit scholarships, so if you do not see this in your admissions materials you have not received a merit scholarship.

Would EA applicants (admitted) have heard about merit scholarships by now, or is there any hope that something is in the mail? Also, would it be posted on their admitted student page?

My daughter found out about her acceptance online… there was no mention of merit money. Will there be a snail mail with other acceptance materials with the possibility of scholarship? Or if it’s not mentioned on-line is she out of luck?

It’s called reading the other threads on the uchicago forum and/or using google. You know, it sometimes (and I stress the sometimes here) can, shockingly enough, give you the answer to your question. Some of you should try this so that Grace doesn’t have to waste her time on here by answering questions that you can easily find the answer to.

And, to answer your question, no your daughter didn’t get a merit scholarship. Sorry.

Your point is valid, but what’s with the attitude, man? I hope you don’t talk to people like that in real life…

Eek, but I actually do have a question! I’ve already sent the financial aid office an email, but I can’t find any link to a financial aid award on my student website. Is that definitely an indicator that I didn’t get any money, or could it just be a glitch? I’ve talked to a couple of other admitted students that are experiencing the same problem.

This is very different from what my counselor tells me. Someone is not telling the truth. This is not funny

PSAC-
Question: If an individual is accepted from the waitlist does he/she still receive a Financial Aid package from The University of Chicago? (given that they qualify for $,etc…)

PSAC-
Does Chicago take demonstrated interest into account? I am certainly interested in UChicago, and plan to apply, but it is difficult for me to visit from Central NY.
