Students at any university will question your beliefs. Do not be alarmed. No one is out to “persecute you,” but people will disagree with you. You should even question your own beliefs. Most students won’t be disrespectful, unless you make a big deal about it by trying to preach or something Treat others like you wanted to be treated and I see no conflict arising.

There is a sizable Christian community on every college campus. It is the dominant religious population on campus.

@Fortress: Interviews are an evaluative part of your application, but a few awkward moments are nothing to worry about. As long as you felt you did your best, the interviewer’s report should just supplement your app and help the counselors understand you better. No worries! As for people who didn’t get interviews, “getting” an interview depends entirely on when you request one and if there’s an alumni in your area with room in their schedule to interview or a remaining slot at the office. It’s availability, people aren’t “chosen”.

@KoolKat1: You should take whichever subject you’re most passionate about. The University wants you to challenge yourself, but they also want you to show that you have broad interests. So if you did take anatomy, you could make a point to go above and beyond; challenging yourself doesn’t just mean taking AP classes! Also, way to be ahead of the game!

@TheWhat: That would probably be a good course of action, but you should email your regional counselor to confirm and/or ask what medium they’d prefer.

@mjmay7: You should give the college aid office a call on this one; if you call and explain the situation, it should be fine. You can find their number on the University website.

@atxnickg: The University really goes all out to support religious organizations; there are over 40 registered Religious RSO’s (clubs) on campus. Rockefeller Chapel, our huge awesome cathedral looking church on campus, has a lot of staff devoted to managing and helping these groups. I have lots of friends involved with Intervarsity (which, if the number of people I know in it is an indication, is huge), Calvert House and other groups.

To my understanding, UChicago has a Secular Student Alliance chapter? However, I read their handbook and they make the difference between being nosy and expressing their own belief very clear.

Regarding the admitted student overnights mentioned far above, are these for ALL admitted students, or only Early Action admits?

@lullinatalk: Yep, one of my friends is the president (at least I think he has that role??) of the SSA here. My understanding of it is pretty chill, and I’ve personally enjoyed going to their fun events.

Hello! A few questions from a hopeful 2016’er

I have a campus tour on June 4th and I got the verification email but it was extremely vague and didnt really explain where I had to go and so on.

So is there a specific place that I should report to at my scheduled time?

Following this further, for my interview I looked at the timeline on the UofC website for EA and it said it would be ideal to schedule an interview in summer, does it mean late summer? It just seems a little early to me.

Finally I plan on submitting an art supplement with my application. Do admissions prefer a tangible portfolio or would a digital portfolio suffice?

You should report to the Admissions Office in Rosenwald Hall.

It is early, but the office understands that some people can only travel in the summer, and they want to give as many people a chance to interview as possible. When I applied for the Class of 2013, I interviewed in the summer of 2008 for entry in the fall of 2009.

Either option is fine. Though if you do a digital portfolio, you can attach it to your common application, so that might be more convenient for you.

whats the lowest gpa someone has gotten in with?

I’m really nervous because I really screwed things up my sophomore and junior year… cause a lot of personal issues I guess.

but i’m really trying to overcome it, because its my dream to go to uchicago and do economics. with strong extracuricculars and test scores, could I get in with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5?

Hi , how long does it usually take for the enrollment deposit to be recognized on the uchicago account? I paid 4 days ago but there is still that X that says I haven’t paid yet.

vballchick: I can nearly guarantee (speaking as 2nd year here…) you that people have gotten in with lower GPAs than a 3 in the past admission cycle though; to be honest, they probably had some other particularly strong features. You should apply if Chicago is your dream school though, and put a lot of effort into your essays!

houstonrockets: Others were mentioning issues with this as well. Can you make housing decisions? If you can, then you are probably fine. I would suggest calling the admissions office (they might transfer you to the financial office) in couple days if they issue isn’t resolved. In general, the finance office can be incredibly slow…

Sad/Funny story: I have a friend who was unable to continue to pay for her education. Stayed in housing, kept taking classes, and wasn’t told until about 4 months later that she needed to leave.

Hi, so i just received an email from Uchicago about applying for a student visa. It says that we need to upload financial documents (like bank statements) stating we have sufficient money to pay for 1 year of education. Would it be okay if I upload more than 1 bank statement from 1 bank? Like 3 different bank statements from different accounts that add up to 1 year of tuition. Because I believe my dad doesn’t put all of his money in one bank.

I plan on pursuing an econ major. Would it be possible to graduate in 3 years without enduring a lot of stress and undertaking a ridiculous work load?

Hello. We just came back from a tour of Univ. of Chicago and my D fell in love with the school. We have some quick questions.

She is interested in studying French. I see the major is “Romance Languages.” Would she then emphasize her particular language if she studied at U of C?

The Core actually intrigues my D, especially reading from original texts and the small, engaged discussions. But she always hears from her Northwestern Grad Grandfather that U of C is “where fun goes to die.” Does the Core result in no time for anything but studying? I know at the tour, they were emphasizing fun, but my D is hoping for the complete college experience (study hard, play hard.)

Safety - We took the bus from Chicago to U of C and, although it was not as bad as some places I have lived in my life, it made me, as a Mom, think a little. How is the safety around U of C? Is Hyde Park safe? We didn’t make it too far into Hyde Park. (Long day.)

Freshman year my counselor signed me up for an honors math and an honors biology class. I tried to switch into an easier class but he wouldn’t let me. I received an F for first semester in both classes. Since then I’ve changed counselors and my grades have all been much higher. I am now taking the most rigorous courses available and doing fine in them. Will Freshman year first semester grades have a huge negative affect on my admissions?

Emphasize where? Will she be able to take French classes here? Most definitely. Should she emphasize it on her application? I would say she should emphasize the things she has a passion for.

The “Study Hard, Play Hard” method is used by a vast proportion of students. Don’t get me wrong, we work hard here – but it will by no means take up your entire life. For instance, we have a 2 day reading period that most people use to go downtown, go to events on campus, etc. rather than studying.

I have, personally, never felt scared. It is an urban environment though and incidences do occur…

Scurrilous: You may have your current counselor write a note explaining?
