I’m currently a student at USC in California and interested in transferring to the University of Chicago. I would think that Chicago, as self-selective as it is, naturally tends to attract students who are familiar with its culture and want to be there for the right reasons. However, I am still debating as to whether I should prolong my undergraduate studies, or attempt a transfer to the GSB a year from now since I am pretty certain of my major and academic interests. In any case, would you be able to speak to the presence of veterans currently attending the college? Do you know of any that are currently enrolled? And if so, has the transition been a relatively smooth one for them and the student body at large? Thanks!

Should I revoke my request for an interview then, if I will most likely not get one by November 6th? Should I resubmit a request for interview around the end of November (for an interview that will take place most likely in late December) just in case I get deferred on Dec 15th?
Thanks!

I personally don’t think you should do that because at least you’ll be given contact information now, and you can go ahead and set up the interview for late December anyway as “backup” if you don’t get one in by November 6th. (I honestly don’t think I will either and I wish I would have known earlier that it was Nov. 6th!!!)

Does it affect admissions at all if I have a cousin who did her undergrad at chicago? I’ve heard that it doesn’t matter, but it asks for relatives on the supplement so I thought I’d ask.

How does UChicago match SAT scores sent by CollegeBoard to the correct applicant? I ask because my name on Collegeboard doesn’t include my middle names whereas my Chicago application will. I’m an international applicant so SS numbers don’t apply. It’s minor, I just want to make sure my scores get sent to the right people.

Grace, my son submitted both the Chicago supplement and the common app early yesterday. He hasn’t received the email that tells him how to create his Chicago account. Since Nov 3rd is the deadline for requesting an alumni interview, I’m worried that he would not be able to create an account in time to request an off-campus interview. What can he do?

Yeah, I’m having a similar problem. I submitted my application about 47 hours ago, and I still don’t have a Chicago account. It’s a bit worrisome.

I’m sorry, but I can’t help with the creation of the Chicago account- definitely check your Spam folder in your e-mail address to see if somehow the notification was sent there, as sometimes automatically generated e-mails wind up in your spam even if they’re from Chicago. If not, tomorrow between 8:30am-4:00pm Central time, call the tech support number listed on your application forms and on our website (NOT you regional counselor!) and we’ll get things sorted out.

ALSO, on timing: yes, the deadline has shifted a bit, because it’s impossible to have things postmarked on a Sunday. I spoke with an admissions counselor yesterday about this, and her advice was to try and complete anything online today, but if you absolutely must, send things by mail or send in last bits of application tomorrow. I have no information about how late is too late time-wise tomorrow on sending things, so please don’t ask- just make an effort to have as many things completed today as possible.

lotm30923- You’ve got the distinction of asking me a question I’ve never been asked before! I can’t say that I’ve met any veterans who are currently attending UChicago, but I will ask around at PSAC and try and get you a response sometime soon. While I can’t really make a decision for you as to whether or not you should transfer or wait until graduate school, I will try to find you someone to speak to about your other student life questions.

This is a bit random, but I just noticed Dean Nondorf’s e-mail address on the Contact Us admissions page, and was wondering on what basis would a prospective student contact a dean?

In the case where you do not find any good sources, I’m immensely interested in the Zombie Readiness Task Force. Contact from any member of this profound organization would make my day. Meanwhile, I wait in virtuous patience…

Dean Nondorf does college visits for some areas of the country, and his e-mail address is available online so admissions counselors from schools may ask him questions- although he is quite the friendly guy, there is really no reason a prospective student should contact him. If you need to contact someone in the office, try our general student-questions address at psac@uchicago.edu or e-mail your regional counselor.

So, I mailed my transcript and counselor/teacher’s recommendations last week and submitted both my application and supplement on the 1st, but when I paid the application fee (at 11:50p in my timezone, live in a Chicago suburb), the payment said that it was sent at 12:50. I assume this is because the common app is based on the east coast. Is my EA application invalid now? Because, I really don’t want it to be. =[

Thanks for all the help you have been leading up to EA. Do you know what the time lag is after submitting the app to get the account info? I assume it could be longer for apps submitted on Nov 1. My D has yet to get her account and needs to request an alumni interview. At what date should she follow up with the admissions office?

I already got my Chicago account and everything, but it doesn’t say whether or not the University has recieved stuff like ACT scores. Is there a way to make sure that it all got there?

I have a general question and a specific question.

The general question is when does Chicago start reading the EA apps? Is it as soon as each app is submitted with all the required docs? In other words, if an app is complete and submitted on 10/1, would the reading start soon after?

Now to the specific question. My son submitted his EA app on 10/31. One of his LOR’s was mailed on 11/1. Will admissions start reading his app before processing all his LOR’s?
